❝IT HASN'T CHANGED A BIT.❞
HAYLEY SWAN LET OUT A LOUD SQUEAL AND BOUNDED INTO THE OPEN ARMS OF HER FATHER, SQUEEZING HIM WITH ALL HER MIGHT. It had been far too long since she had seen her dad, and the older Swan girl couldn't have been happier to be back in Washington rather than sunny Arizona.
"Look at you, Kiddo!" Charlie grinned as he spun his oldest daughter in a circle. "You've gotten taller."
"Not by much." Hayley chuckled as her dad put her down, pushing a piece of her hair out of her face. "I missed you so much, Daddy." The girl once again wrapped her arms around her father and Charlie returned the embrace, kissing the top of her head.
"I missed you too, Kiddo." He whispered.
Bella had chosen to stay back during the interaction. Unlike Hayley, she didn't have a real relationship with their father, while Hayley often preferred Charie over their mother. And Bella didn't resent Hayley for that, she was happy with just the way things were in their small family. Because deep down the Swan girls knew that each parent had their favorite twin.
Hayley was Charlie's and Bella was Renee's. That was the way it had always been.
After their little reunion, Hayley found herself in the back of Charlie's police cruiser, head leaned against the window as the long trip finally caught up to her. But she refused to sleep until she was in an actual bed, her neck was killing her enough already.
"Your hair's longer." Although Hayley's eyes were closed, she could see the awkward looks of both her sister and father's faces and let out a quiet giggle.
"I cut it since last time I saw you." At Bella's words, Hayley cringed. She could at least try and make conversation, but Hayley knew that her younger sister wasn't the talkative type.
"Guess it grew out again." Charlie muttered out before he peeked into the rearview mirror, catching a glimpse of a slightly dozed-off Hayley in the back seat. "Hayley, were almost there."
"I'm awake!" Hayley shot up, nearly slamming her head into the back of Bella's seat and she blinked rapidly as her eyes adjusted to the light. "I wasn't asleep."
