As Maya and Warren carefully maneuvered the aid car into the emergency room entrance, they focused on ensuring the pregnant patient was as comfortable and secure as possible. The woman, who had been in a serious car accident, was visibly distressed but conscious.
Maya and Warren swiftly transferred the patient onto a stretcher, their movements practiced and efficient. As they wheeled her into the emergency room, they spotted Carina across the room, tending to another case. Her brown hair was neatly tied back, and her white coat contrasted sharply against the bustling backdrop of the ER.
Carina's eyes met Maya's, and she immediately recognized the gravity of the situation. "Maya!" she called out, moving towards them with a concerned expression.
"We've got a pregnant woman here who was in a car accident," Maya explained quickly. "She's in a lot of pain, and we're worried about both her and the baby."
Carina nodded, her professional demeanor taking over. "Let me take a look. Thank you for bringing her in."
As Carina began to examine the patient, Maya and Warren stepped back, giving her space to work. Carina's attention was focused and precise as she assessed the woman's condition, her expertise evident in every movement.
"Is there anything else I should know?" Carina asked, glancing up from her work.
Maya shook her head. "Just that she's been in pain for a while. We're worried about both her and the baby."
Carina gave a reassuring nod. "I'll make sure she gets the care she needs. Thank you for your quick response."
As Maya and Warren finished their tasks and were about to head back to the aid car, Carina, having just wrapped up with the pregnant patient, hurried over to them. Her white coat billowed slightly as she moved swiftly through the crowded ER.
"Maya!" Carina called out, her voice carrying a note of genuine enthusiasm. "I wanted to catch you before you left."
Maya turned, a smile forming on her face as she saw Carina approaching. "Hi, Carina. What's up?"
Carina's hazel eyes sparkled with appreciation. "I just wanted to thank you again for the amazing firehouse tour the other day. Alex had such a great time. He's been talking about it non-stop since."
Maya chuckled, feeling pleased. "I'm glad he enjoyed it. It was fun showing him around. He's such a great kid."
Carina nodded enthusiastically. "He's been great, actually. He's been showing off his new fire truck to everyone at preschool. And you know what? He's been getting all good marks on his behavior this week. He's been really excited to tell everyone about his 'favorite firefighter.'"
Maya's smile widened at the compliment. "That's fantastic to hear. He's such a sweet kid."
Carina's eyes softened as she spoke. "It's been a bit of a challenge for him to make friends at school. But I think your visit to the firehouse made a big difference. He's been much more confident since then."
Maya felt a sense of warmth at Carina's words. "I'm really happy to hear that. It sounds like he's doing better."
As Maya wrapped up her conversation with Carina, the familiar crackle of the radio interrupted their exchange.
"Maya, Warren, we have a new call. There's been a multiple-car accident on the freeway. You're needed on scene ASAP," the voice over the radio announced.
Maya's expression shifted to one of focus as she turned to Carina. "I'm sorry, Carina, but we have to head out. Duty calls."
Carina nodded understandingly. "Of course. Be safe out there"
