Prompt: The new kid at school wants to be your friend, but you're very shy.

It was the first day of the new school year, and I was nervously making my way through the crowded hallways of Franklin Middle School. As a shy and introverted person, the thought of having to interact with a bunch of strangers was enough to make my stomach churn.

As I made my way to my first class, I noticed a tall, lanky boy who seemed to be hovering around me as I walked. I tried to ignore him and focus on finding my classroom, but he persisted in trying to strike up a conversation with me.

"Hey, I'm Ethan. What's your name?" he asked, flashing me a big, friendly smile.

I mumbled something incoherent in response, my cheeks burning with embarrassment. I wasn't used to being approached by such outgoing people, especially on my first day at a new school.

Undeterred, Ethan continued to chat away, telling me about his favorite video games, his pet hamster, and his love for science fiction movies. I couldn't help but notice how animated and energetic he was, a stark contrast to my own quiet and reserved demeanor.

As we reached our first class, Ethan turned to me and said, "Hey, do you want to sit together? It's always better to have a friend by your side on the first day of school.

"I hesitated for a moment, unsure of how to respond. I had always been more comfortable sitting alone, avoiding the awkwardness of small talk and forced social interactions. But there was something about Ethan's genuine and friendly nature that made me reconsider.

"Sure, why not," I finally replied, a shy smile creeping onto my face.

And just like that, I found myself sitting next to Ethan, listening to his endless stream of chatter as he regaled me with stories of his wacky adventures and wild escapades. Despite my initial reservations, I couldn't help but be drawn in by his infectious enthusiasm and quirky sense of humor.

As the days turned into weeks, Ethan became a constant presence in my life, always eager to include me in his zany schemes and nonsensical antics. Whether it was convincing me to join the school's drama club or challenging me to a game of dodgeball during gym class, Ethan never failed to keep me on my toes.

One day, as we sat together in the cafeteria, Ethan turned to me with a mischievous glint in his eye. "Hey, I have an idea. How about we prank Mrs. Jenkins, the strictest teacher in school? It'll be hilarious, I promise!"

I was torn between my desire to please Ethan and my fear of getting in trouble. But before I could protest, Ethan had already jumped up from his seat and sprinted off towards Mrs. Jenkins' classroom, leaving me to anxiously follow in his wake.

What followed was a chaotic blur of water balloons, whoopee cushions, and flying paper airplanes, all orchestrated by Ethan with the precision of a mastermind. Despite my initial reservations, I couldn't help but get caught up in the thrill of the moment, laughing uproariously as Mrs. Jenkins chased us around the classroom in a fit of rage.

As we finally escaped the clutches of our enraged teacher, Ethan turned to me with a grin. "That was awesome! I told you we'd have a blast."

And in that moment, I realized that having a friend like Ethan was worth stepping out of my comfort zone and embracing the chaos and unpredictability of life. With his infectious energy and unwavering loyalty, Ethan had managed to break through my shell of shyness and bring a newfound sense of joy and adventure into my life.

So as we navigated the ups and downs of middle school together, I knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, I would always have Ethan by my side, ready to cheer me on and lift my spirits with his boundless enthusiasm and unwavering friendship. And for that, I was truly grateful.
