"The mines of Hiracleth have been taken over by the ghostly."

Murmurs broke out amongst the group that Ronan was trying to shun. I myself felt a terrible sense of foreboding settle in my stomach. This couldn't be true.

The mines were vital for our country. It is where we got all of our iron and steel that we needed not only for war but also every single machinery we used in agriculture.
The mines have been used for ages by our ancestors, even before we had ways of documenting them.
Losing them meant inevitably losing our lives.

"Be quiet!" Ronan yelled. The whole group had gathered on the yard in front of the academy, already knowing that the news couldn't be good. It was as if whenever we went outside disaster was waiting to strike.

"You all know that these mines are very important, essentially we are dependent on them" he said gravely, not sugarcoating anything.
"Which is why I'm taking you with us but we wont be the only ones. Soldiers have already been stationed in the surrounding area and are just waiting for the signal. Tomorrow morning the battle will begin."

His words sounded in such finality that nobody dared to utter a word. There was nothing we could do now but pray to the gods that we would get out in one piece.
So in a heavy silence we started our path towards the portals.

The sun was starting to set and my shoulders were beginning to ache. All afternoon we had set up our tents along the edges of the forest, placing light sources wherever we could.
This way, hopefully, the ghostly would stay away for now.

The air was chilly so I pulled my shirt further up my neck to cover at least my chin and mouth. Lilac was awfully silent while sitting at the campfire. Her face told me that she was deep in thought.
If the atmosphere wasn't as loaded with anxiety and pressure I would've found her little green hat cute and maybe made a comment.

Blayze and Juliette were sitting next to each other in close proximity, sharing their warmth. I was sure that the climate wasn't easy for them since they came from the south where the land was always filled with sunshine. Now we were sitting in a dark and eerie forest deep in the northern mountains, the air frosty and humid.

Everyone was assembled at the fire except for Ronan. He and Davian had followed the leadership into a large tent from which only muffled voices sounded to the outside.
I was concerned for him. Maybe he had known since yesterday or it had been something entirely different. Either way, I was sure that the pressure was high despite his experience.
I desperately wanted to speak to him again to see if he was still angry at me.
One question circled my mind: What was he really like? Was he the man who had flung harsh insults at me, calling me irresponsible and replaceable or was he the person that had trained me, endured my awful jokes and even produced a tilt of his lips?

I wasn't sure right now.

"Aurora" I heard a hissed whisper that startled me. My head whipped around to the sound, confused when I saw that both Blayze and Juliette were looking at me.
