March
"Yeah, it took me like 3 hours to bake it all but my nan loves cheesecake, so... Wait, I think I've got a picture of it- Oh! That's just my dog, haha!" Charlie saw the cutest dog he'd ever seen on Nick's phone screen and couldn't help but take a closer look.
"Wait! You have a dog?"
"Yeah! Her name is Nellie. She's pretty old but I love her."
"I wish I had a dog. My parents don't like animals." Charlie says, leaning back against the stiff school chair.
"You should come to my house and meet her!"
"S- seriously?"
"Yeah! Are you free Saturday?"
"I think so!"
Nick ripped out a page from his book and started scribbling on it. Charlie caught a glimpse of it.
'My address (Nick :) )
34 River Crescent
Ro-'
"Wow, that's only a 10-minute walk from my house!"
"Is it?!"
"Yeah, I live on Britannia Road!"
"Saturday then?"
"Okay!" Charlie prayed that Nick couldn't see his red cheeks.
"Did you two swap seats?" Their teacher interrupts their conversation.
Saturday
Charlie was stressing in front of the mirror and waiting for time to pass so he could go to Nick's.
He'd spent almost an hour deciding on what to wear and he had been standing in front of the mirror for the last twenty minutes flattening his hair. He'd gotten a haircut prior to this but he was now regretting it.
What if Nick didn't like it?
What if he looked weird?
What if the hair made his face stand out but in a bad way?
"What are you doing?" Tori appeared from the kitchen. Charlie loved his older sister, but she wasn't the best at reading people's emotions.
"Do you think it's too short?"
"You've had it cut that short before?"
"I know, but... did it look better long?"
"It looks the same, to be honest. Are you going out?"
"Yeah, to a friend's."
"Tao?"
"No... his name's Nick."
"Hm." She smirked.
"What?"
"Have fun." She smiled and walked away.
With each step Charlie took his heart did weird things. He'd seen Nick many times before but never outside of school. This was different.
He gathered up his courage and took a deep breath before ringing the doorbell. The door opened shortly after and a relaxed yet excited Nick in sweatpants and a t-shirt smiled.
"Hey!"
"Hey." Charlie smiled back. His attention quickly pivoted to Nellie who came running to them and who was eager to greet him.
