Two days later
Ever since that day, I couldn't stop thinking about my mother. I've never seen her like that or treat Evan like that. Evan is kind, sweet, caring and full of love even if he doesn't think he is. I attempted to get my mind off of it by reading one of my favorite novels. Death by love. The book is about years ago when gay love wasn't accepted. Whoever were found dating the same sex, would be murdered. But these two girl who were madly in love didn't care. They tried hiding their love for the longest, but their own town eventually found out. They ran off together hiding in a abandon church for three weeks before getting caught. They bought died by being hungs. As they died, they held hands smiling at each other. One even whispered, "Death does us part, I love you even in death." When I first read the book, I cried for days. I still get sad reading the book. Their love is what I need. Someone who wouldn't mind dying for me if it meant staying together forever.
As I read Death by Love, I heard a soft knock on the door. The door opened and my mother walked in. She wore a green blouse and black leather pants. Not something she usually wears. "Hey honey bun, how you doing? You been hiding in your room for two days." She softly spoken. "Is this about Dean? I heard about the cheating. I'm awfully sorry honey. We can always talk about it if you want." She smiled. I shook my head, not because I didn't want to talk about but because I wasn't sure if this was one of her acts. "I'm fine mother, we weren't great together anyways." I shrugged staring at my book. "Well, i'm always here if you need me." She says. "What happened between you and Evan?" I asked abruptly. "Before you guys talk, he told me you guys might be separting."
Her smile dropped for a second but then she smiled again and sat on the edge of my bed. "Honey, me and Evan were going through a couple things. But we talked and we agreed our love is just too strong to part our ways. So we decided to let it work." She lied. "Then why is he sleeping next door in the guest room?" I asked with annyonce in my voice. "Because it doesn't take two days for us to get better. It takes time smart one." She said obviously getting angry. She stood up and brushed her clothes off. "Well, i'm going to the studio. I'll be in time to make dinner. Love you honey bun," she smiled her fake smile and left out the door. I waited til I heard the front door opened and slammed shut and jumped out of my bed and went next door to Evan's room. I knocked. "Evan?" I said. I heard his voice so I opened the door. I saw him leaned on his bedframe legs crossed on the bed. He turned and saw me. He smiled. "Hey Hazel, what's up?" He said with his gummy smile. His smile didn't seem fake unlike my mothers. "Why are you letting her treat you like this?" I asked. He sighed and his smile slightly dropped. "And don't try to lie, I heard everything." I shook my head and sat down on the bed. "Hazel, Your mother is a great person. I think it's just the stress with her music career. When you're father died, everyone started back focusing on her. She was top news. For only a couple months. Then everyone forgot about her again, she still had her fans, but she wasn't the main topic anymore," He says. "Why would she care though? She told me that her music career was something she did for dad. Not because she wanted the attention." I asked. "It was for your dad at first, but once he passed, it turned to something she thought she needed. So when you she got with me, the attention falls right back on her. Her leaving me will make her lose attention fast." He said.
"How do you know all this?" I asked confused on everything. "It's not hard to put everything together. I think that's why we never worked out. She puts work before anything. And she hides it well." He looks down at his hands. I felt bad for him. My mother using him like a pawn, and it's like he's fine with it. "Why are you letting her do this to you? You can just leave you know. She may told you not to but she's not the boss of you." I rolled my eyes. "I try my best not to complicate things. You're mom is a powerful women. She can do a lot of things to ruin my career that I worked so hard for. If I do this, my businesses will be safe, my reputation will be safe." He said. I kinda understood where he's coming from. But I still didn't understand why. "Is that all why?" I asked. "And you," He turned to me looking me deep in my eyes and flashed his gummy smile. For some reason, it warmed my heart. I smiled back and stood up. "Well, i'm going for a smoke break before my best friend come over." I said and gave him a thumbs up before leaving.
