1989's POV

The ball was in full swing and there was no sign of it ending. I was with Midnights the whole time which made me very happy, she was so effortless.

"Bullshit! I've never smoked, this is disgusting" Midnights denied when I told her one of the things I heard about her.

"What about dating guys from the football team?" it was so funny, the look on her face when I told her all the things that were going around about her at school.

"They thought that when I looked at them I was immediately their wife" she said rolling her eyes and I laughed. "Delusional"

"Oh yes, they absolutely are" I confirmed and Midnights chuckled looking around. People were talking to each other, some were dancing, others were drinking and discussing topics I have no idea about.

I gently lifted the corners of my mouth and Mid returned it with the most adorable smile I've ever seen that made my cheeks flush. She has the most beautiful smile I've ever seen. Suddently, something or someone else caught her attention. I looked in the same direction, to see a girl about my age with brown hair wearing a long emerald dress. When she noticed Midnights she immediately smiled broadly and approached us.

"Damn! I haven't seen you for so long" she said, smiling a little too much at Midnights in my opinion. "You look so good!"

"Don't be ridiculous, you look even better" Midnights replied nonchalantly. No, she doesn't. "What are you doing here?"

"My parents dragged me, I was bored to death so I decided to look around and suddenly I saw you" her friend said excitedly gesticulating and I allowed myself to roll my eyes, knowing that they weren't paying attention to me anyway.

"I didn't expect to see you here, how are you?" Midnights asked casually, starting a conversation. I cleared my throat, interrupting them and wanting to signal that I was here too. "Oh sorry, this is 1989, we go to the same school" she introduced me and I felt my stomach tighten. Not "she's my friend", but "we go to the same school".

"Hi 1989, I'm Ivy, nice to meet you" she smiled pleasantly and I casually mumbled something like "me too" trying not to show too much of a grimace on my face.

They simply went back to the conversation that I wasn't even a part of, even though they tried to start one with me but I gave cursory and short answers. Ivy seemed so chilled and casual, in addition, Midnights didn't take her eyes off her and that was literally driving me crazy. I couldn't wait for Ivy to finally go away and I would have those dark blue eyes on me and only me.

"Nine, what do you think?" Midnights asked knocking me out of my thoughts.

"Whatever" I totally had no idea what they were talking about, Midnights looked at me, raising an eyebrow. There was a moment of silence between us, but somehow I didn't feel sorry about it.

"Um...maybe we should grab some champagne?" Ivy asked in her high-pitched, sweet voice that I was already sick of and not even five minutes had passed.

"I don't feel like having champagne today" Midnights replied indifferently.

"Me neither" I said almost immediately, smiling victoriously at Ivy who was looking at me now. "Maybe you should go get yourself champagne and we'll wait here...or don't" I suggested, adopting an innocent expression on my face and saying the last words barely audibly under my breath. Ivy must haven't heard it, but Midnights did, because she looked at me a with a smirk on her lips.

"I'll be right back" she said politely and then walked away.

"Take your time!" I shouted after her, hoping she wouldn't come to us again.
