Chapter-19
Three months had passed since Ash's intense showdown at the Viridian City Gym. Now, standing at the grand gates of the Indigo Plateau, he felt an electric surge of excitement mixed with determination. This was the place where dreams were realized, battles were fought, and champions were made. But today, it marked something even more significant—it was the last day to register for the Indigo League, the league will start from the next day and Ash knew he'd come a long way since his first league attempt.Walking into the vast hall of the Indigo Plateau, Ash took in the crowds of trainers and their Pokémon filling the space. The energy here was contagious, yet Ash remained composed, his focus unshakable. He thought of the promise he'd made to Serena before she left Kanto. He had told her that he would come for her after he fulfilled his dream, and that one day, they'd meet again. It was a promise that had kept him grounded, and every battle now carried the weight of that vow.
At the registration desk, he presented his badges. The clerk took a moment to verify them, then handed him his tournament credentials.
"You're all set, Ash Ketchum," the clerk announced. "Best of luck in the League."
"Thank you," Ash replied, flashing a determined smile. He adjusted his hat and walked further into the hall, where he spotted a familiar face in the crowd.
"Ash!" Leaf's voice rang out as she waved, walking over with a warm smile on her face.
"Leaf!" Ash greeted, his expression softening. He remembered their recent encounter, how she had helped him after his battle with Giovanni. They'd reconnected over shared memories and battles, and he appreciated her friendship even more now.
Beside Leaf stood Ritchie, grinning and giving Ash a thumbs-up. "It's good to see you, Ash! Ready to give it all you've got?"
Ash nodded firmly. "You bet! I've been training hard for this. I won't be holding back."
Before they could continue, a figure approached, drawing their attention. Gary Oak, hands in his pockets and eyes cold, walked up to the group. He scanned Ash with an expression that bordered on disdain.
"So, you're here again," Gary said, his voice lacking any warmth. "I thought after your last attempt, you'd realize this league wasn't for amateurs."
Ash met Gary's gaze steadily, refusing to be fazed. "I'm here to win, Gary. This time, I'm more prepared than ever."
Gary let out a scoff, shaking his head. "You're still as pathetic as you were back then. I doubt you'll even make it past the first round." He shifted his gaze to Leaf, his expression briefly softening before his usual cold demeanor returned.
As Gary walked away, Leaf's eyes lingered on him, a look of mixed emotions crossing her face. She turned back to Ash, offering a weak smile, but Ash noticed the hint of something in her expression—admiration, perhaps even something more. He decided not to comment, respecting her silence.
Ritchie sighed, crossing his arms. "That guy needs to loosen up. Thinks he's better than everyone else."
Ash shrugged, his expression serious. "Gary's always been like that. But it doesn't matter. I'm not here to prove anything to him. I'm here for myself, and for everyone who's believed in me."
Leaf's face softened. "That's the spirit, Ash. You're not the same kid who started this journey. You've grown."
Ash felt a surge of gratitude for Leaf's encouragement. But before he could respond, a voice called out from behind them.
"Ash!"
Turning around, he saw his mother, Delia, accompanied by Professor Oak. They approached, their faces beaming with pride.
"Mom! Professor Oak!" Ash greeted, feeling a warmth spread through him. Seeing them here, ready to support him, made this moment all the more meaningful.
Delia pulled him into a hug. "We're so proud of you, honey. You've come such a long way."
Professor Oak placed a reassuring hand on Ash's shoulder. "Indeed, Ash. Watching you grow and mature as a trainer has been an honor. We're all rooting for you."
"Thanks, Mom, Professor Oak." Ash smiled, hugging his mom tightly. "I'm not going to let any of you down. I'll give it everything I've got."
The group spent some time catching up, sharing memories of Ash's journey and reflecting on how far he had come. But as the day moved forward, the excitement in the hall intensified. Finally, the announcement was made for trainers to gather in the main arena for the unveiling of the matchups and battlefields.
The trainers assembled, the buzz of anticipation filling the air. A massive screen lit up, displaying the tournament bracket. As the names filled the chart, Ash's heart raced, his mind focusing on the task at hand. He spotted his first-round opponent and took in the details of the battlefield—a rocky terrain that would test his Pokémon's agility and strength.
Ritchie nudged him, grinning. "Looks like we're both in for a challenge."
Ash's eyes narrowed with determination. "I'm ready for whatever comes my way."
Gary's name flashed on the screen, and Ash noted that his rival's first opponent looked equally strong, The battlefield was the ice field . But Gary's face remained cold, unreadable, as he glanced at the screen before walking away without a word.
Ash turned back to his friends and family, feeling the weight of his promise to Serena. He would battle with everything he had—not just for himself, but for all those who believed in him.
With a final nod to Leaf, Ritchie, and his mom, Ash walked away, towards the training area. The Indigo League was about to begun, and he was ready to face whatever lay ahead.
The journey to becoming a Pokémon Master continued.
As the journey continues...
