Third person pov: seven and a half years ago.

A young fourteen year old girl lays in a hospital bed, her body covered head to toe in wires as well as multiple saline drips and blood bags that hang from two metal rods beside her head. She lays back exhausted as small pants leave her mouth while sweat dribbles down her face and forehead.

Holding her hands out, a young, impressionable Stephanie Halstead is handed her daughter wrapped in fresh, clean, linen towels. The tiny newborn still smothered in blood and placenta from her mothers' womb. Like mother like daughter, both cry. It was a new start for both of them— a reason for Stephanie to never give up and actually start looking after herself.

"She's perfect." Steph sobs, holding her baby to her bare chest. A gasp leaves her lips as her little girls' hand wraps around her finger, she smiles at looks up towards the midwife who was just cleaning her up and taking her legs down from the footrests.

"She looks just like you." A gruff voice buts in, he wanders in from the open corridor; drawing open the blue curtain, taking a step inside before pulling it closed again.

Jackson Lewis watches Stephanie Halstead hold his daughter, he had waited nine months for this moment and he wasn't even ashamed of the internal and external damage he had caused in the process. Since the teenager in the room was fourteen, she didn't understand the severity of the situation, she didn't understand how illegal all of it was.

"So we're just going to take her away for a couple of minutes. Only to check that everything is okay and nothing has been comprised since the birth." The midwife who had delivered their child states, a large smile plastered all over her face as a paediatrician removes the baby from Stephanie's arms causing her to reach out her hands.

"That's my baby, please don't take my baby." She speaks, her voice shaking as her daughter is wheeled out of the room in a cot. Jackson places a hand on her shoulder and takes a seat beside the teenager.

"Shhhh." He hums, settling her head on his shoulder he feels the tears drench his plaid jacket. "They're just checking her over, she will be back in a minute. I promise you, sweetheart."

A nurse in dark blue scrubs enters the room, sending the teen mom a sad smile before unhooking her from the blood bag— she had started to heavily bleed during labour which was a worry about twelve hours ago when the contractions had begun. Fortunately everything had gone perfectly fine and Stephanie had finally delivered her overdue baby.

"Have you thought of a name yet?" The nurse asks the mother and who she assumed was the father or young uncle. Oh, how wrong she was.

Twenty three year old Jackson Lewis replies before his girlfriend had the chance to, "Charlotte Elouise Lewis. Her middle name after Stephanie's (foster) mother." Steph's eyes widen with awe, the pair had argued about the name of their child only a couple of days ago; agreeing on the first name but not the middle.

"Are you sure?" The young girl whispers as the disgusting man nods with a sinister smile playing on his lips— one the girl didn't notice as she was past exhausted after the long twelve hour labour of her daughters birth.

Stephanie Amber Halstead was fourteen, Jackson Lewis was twenty three. It was illegal and degrading behaviour, behaviour that had never been punished by the police nor had it ever been reported— not even by the hospital, they had very clearly forgotten to report the safeguarding files or maybe instead passed it onto someone who passed it onto someone else and so on...
