"Whoever my Master is, I hope that he or she is wise," Saedii said as they rounded the corner, passing by Master Voss, who nodded in their direction. "I feel like I still have so much to learn."

"I want a Master that's daring," Kalth said excitedly. "I want to go straight to the front lines. I'm ready to make a name for myself."

"Master Yoda says that pride and vanity are two sides of the same coin."

"It's not vain to want to be successful."

"No, but it is to hope for glory."

Kalth snorted. "Look, all I want is to get my name in the history books. To do something great, like slay a Sith Lord, like Master Kenobi did. That isn't reaching too far."

"You wouldn't last two seconds against a Sith."

A withering look passed his face. "Well...maybe not now. But in a few months, I might."

Pools of light filtered in through the high windows as they turned down the final corridor, towards the Council Chambers. It was a pleasant day on Coruscant, sunny and warm. A sweet breeze blew in, carrying warm scents of baking bread and blooming flowers. Soft calls of warbling jays and cutter gulls trickled in – a peaceful sound.

At the window, Masters Ti and Sinube were chatting quietly. As they passed, Master Sinube gave a low rumble of laughter at whatever Master Ti said. When the two looked up, Kalth and Saedii nodded in greeting.

"I hope Master Sinube isn't looking for a new Padawan," Kalth said, low under his breath.

Saedii elbowed him in the ribs. Hard. "Be nice. Master Sinube is kind and very wise."

"So you'd be happy to have him as your Master, then?"

She tactfully avoided the question. "I'm sure he would have much to teach to his leaner."

The two of them stopped outside of the Council Chambers. The double doors were intricate and ornate, gilded in gold. A gift from the Chancellor.

A sudden anxiety overtook her as she stood there, moments from learning her fate. She bit her lip. Whatever happened on the other side of these doors would change the course of her life.

A hand reached out and grabbed hers. When she looked up, Kalth's eyes reflected the worry that she felt. The same little bit of exhilaration mixed with fear.

"Whatever happens, we'll always have each other," he promised. "No matter where in the galaxy the Clone Wars take us, you'll always be my best friend."

"And you mine." Saedii squeezed his hand.

Then, with a deep breath, Saedii reached out and knocked.

From inside, Master Yoda's voice called, "Enter, young ones."

Kalth and Saedii dropped hands as they pushed the doors open.

Inside, it was cooler than it had been in the halls. The windows had been pulled up here, opening the room to the elements, allowing for that breeze to fill up the space, keeping it cool. In the midday, swaths of shade cast about the room, stretching out long fingers along the floors.

The low seats of the Council arranged around the intricate flower at the center of the floor. Today, the seats were unoccupied, resplendent in shades of rich scarlet.

Master Yoda stood at the center. He smiled at the two of them as they nervously shuffled into the room. Behind him, Masters Mace Windu and Plo Koon stood.
