Akshara's POVA week later, I had settled into my routine, slowly getting used to the rhythm of the office. The team was beginning to feel more familiar, though I was still adjusting to the different personalities.
Rahul and I had gradually become friends over the course of the week. His calm and laid-back demeanor made it easy to talk to him.
We often exchanged casual chats during coffee breaks, and he would share his experience working in the company, offering little tips that helped me navigate the work more smoothly. His quiet sense of humor caught me off guard at times, but it made our conversations more enjoyable. Despite his relaxed approach, I could tell he was someone who took his work seriously, and that balance made him a reliable presence in the office.
Alya, with her maturity and warmth, became a go-to for any questions I had, always ready to guide without making me feel like a burden. Srishti, the bubbly ray of sunshine, was quickly becoming my favorite part of the day. Her infectious laughter and upbeat energy brought life to the office, and she often dragged me along to lunch, making sure I was never left out.
Neha, on the other hand, was still difficult to deal with. Her privileged background and brash attitude rubbed most people the wrong way, including me. She made no effort to hide her disdain for tasks she considered beneath her and was often condescending. Though I did my best to remain professional, it wasn't easy to ignore her arrogance.
Akash, always full of creative ideas, kept things light and entertaining in the office. His sharp focus during work paired well with his easygoing nature, making him enjoyable to collaborate with on projects.
As the evening rolled around and the office started to empty, I finished up the last of my tasks and gathered my things. It had been a long but productive day. With my bag over my shoulder, I stood up and walked over to my teammates.
"I'm heading out now," I said, offering a small smile. After bidding farewell to everyone, I made my way to the elevator, a quiet sense of satisfaction settling in. As I descended to the lobby, the soft hum of the elevator provided a moment of reflection.
When the doors slid open, I stepped out into the empty lobby. The space was unusually quiet, with none of the usual employees around. It felt oddly still, the absence of people making the large space feel even larger. As I walked through the lobby toward the exit, a cool breeze from outside brushed past me, the city lights starting to flicker on, casting a soft glow through the glass doors.
While checking my phone, I suddenly stumbled over something. Before I could kiss the floor, a pair of arms wrapped around my waist, stopping my fall. In the rush of the moment, I instinctively closed my eyes, bracing for impact, but it never came. Instead, I felt the firm grip that had kept me from hitting the ground.
I slowly opened my eyes, my heart still racing, and found myself face-to-face with a pair of charcoal-black eyes staring down at me. My breath caught as I took in the sight of the man holding me-his features sharp and striking, with a handsome face that could rival a Greek god. His presence was intense, almost overwhelming, and yet, I couldn't recall ever seeing him in the office.
Before I could make sense of the moment, a distant sound snapped me back to reality. That's when I realized the position we were in: his arms still wrapped securely around my waist, his chest close to mine, steadying me in his grip. The sudden realization sent a rush of heat to my face.
Without a word, he gently helped me regain my footing, his hands lingering just long enough to ensure I was steady before he slowly withdrew. His touch was warm, his movements controlled, and despite the awkwardness of the situation, he handled it with a natural grace.
As I stood there, still trying to process everything, I shifted my weight and winced. My ankle throbbed slightly, and I realized that in the rush of the moment, I might have twisted it.
"Are you okay? Did you get injured?" he asked, his voice filled with genuine concern as his eyes scanned me quickly.
"I think my ankle's slightly sprained," I admitted, glancing down and trying to move it cautiously. "But I'll manage."
He noticed my discomfort immediately, his eyes flicking down to my ankle before returning to meet mine. "Are you sure? I can help you to the lobby if you need," he offered, his voice calm but firm, as if he wasn't used to being turned down.
I shook my head quickly, not wanting to seem more vulnerable than I already felt. "I'll be fine, really. Just need to walk it off."
His gaze lingered on me for a moment, as if he was weighing whether or not to insist. Finally, he gave a small nod, the corner of his mouth lifting in a faint smile. "Alright, but be careful. You don't want to make it worse."
"Thanks," I said, feeling a little flustered again as I shifted my weight gingerly, hoping I could walk without limping too much.
With one last, unreadable glance, he nodded and stepped back slightly. As I stood there, still feeling the ache in my ankle, I watched as the mysterious man's gaze softened. Noticing my unease, he gave me a reassuring smile and said, "I mean no harm. Are you new to the office?"
I blinked, surprised by the sudden shift in conversation. "Yeah," I nodded slowly, still trying to shake off the odd tension from the moment. "I'm Akshara, I just started last week."
He nodded, his expression calm and composed. "I'm Adhithya," he introduced himself, adding, "I'm also working in the company."
[A/N: Guys, I know you're eager for our male lead, so here he is!]
I felt a wave of relief wash over me-he wasn't just a random stranger; he was part of the company too. "But I didn't see you before in the office," I said, offering a small smile.
"Well, I work under the CEO, and only a few people are allowed on that floor, so that's why you didn't see me," he said lightly, his eyes flicking back to my ankle. "But seriously, take it easy with that sprain. You don't want to push yourself too hard."
"I will," I reassured him, though the mystery of who Adhithya really was still lingered in my mind as he turned to leave.
Just then, a sound disturbed me; it was none other than my phone ringing, flashing the name Riya across the screen. Oh no, I had completely forgotten she would be waiting to pick me up!
I quickly answered the call. "Hey, I'm sorry! I lost track of time."
"Where are you? I've been waiting in front of your office for almost 25 minutes!" Riya's voice was a mix of concern and annoyance.
"I'm in the lobby, just had a little mishap," I explained, trying to downplay it.
"Mishap? What happened?" she asked, her tone shifting to genuine worry.
"I just twisted my ankle a bit, but I'm okay. I'll be right out," I assured her, already starting to make my way toward the exit.
"Alright, but don't keep me waiting too long!" she said, and I could hear her smile even through the phone.
I hung up and took a deep breath, glancing back in the direction Adhithya had gone. I couldn't shake off the curiosity about him, but I pushed it aside for now. With one last check on my ankle, I headed out of the building and into the cool evening air, eager to catch up with Riya and share the day's adventures.
