It had been a week since you 'moved in' with Hawks. Which was ironic because you hadn't seen him that much. Maybe it wouldn't be a bad arrangement after all, you had a big apartment to hang out in all to yourself.
The only issue you had was the fact that you couldn't leave. Not for lack of trying anyway.
The Hero Commission had someone stationed outside the door at all times. You tried to sneak out once or twice but the person standing guard always made you go back inside. You were used to be being by yourself, it was something you knew well. But still.
The apartment was huge, the biggest you've ever seen. You had lived in dozens and dozens of different homes growing up in the foster care system, but nothing compared to the grandeur of this apartment. There were other things that bothered you too, Hawks had stated that he was living there, but in reality it felt like no one lived there. It was completely furnished with modern furniture and amenities. It had some random pieces of artwork on the walls, but nothing personal. No lingering signs of anyone staying there.
It rubbed you the wrong way and set off alarm bells.
Still, you tried to make the best of it. You met with Mera after a couple of days in bed. The doctor was very stern in your recovery; your concussion had the potential to get worse, but you felt fine. Some headaches here and there, but nothing too crazy. Nothing you couldn't handle.
Mera had arranged for your belongings to be brought up to the apartment. You didn't have a lot of things to bring with you, just a couple of boxes of clothing and random items you used in your dorm. The biggest box had been all of your art supplies.
"Are you sure we packed up the right dorm?" Mera asked with a frown, watching as one of the Hero Commission workers brought in the last box, five in total.
You were rummaging through another box, looking for your favorite hoodie. You paused looking up at him, feeling slightly embarrassed. "Should I have more?"
The older man looked at you for a moment before before shaking his head. Surely he had run a background check on you by now, so he knew how you grew up, knew you were an orphan. That meant not carrying or owning much.
"I don't need a lot you know, school has been my main focus."
Mera nodded as he watched you look through another box, still hunting for your hoodie. "I just want to make sure you have everything you need."
You paused your search, blinking as you looked up at him. He was essentially keeping you hostage here and he had the nerve to say such a thing? You were about to answer him with something sarcastic, but he interrupted you holding up a hand.
"I know, I know that this situation isn't ideal. But we meant it when we wanted to make things work, make this easier for you if possible," he explained looking at you, slightly apathetic.
Him? You thought as your eyebrows knitted together. Him as in Hawks? The same person you hadn't seen for almost five days? You let out a huff and went back to looking through the box, focusing on finding your hoodie. Mera didn't say much after that, he just made sure you had everything you needed and promised to have someone from the commission do a grocery run for you.
Ah, that! The kitchen was your absolute dream.
That part of living in the apartment excited you, cooking wasn't something you could easily do in a dorm. Ramen on a hot plate maybe, but here you could actually cook, and you loved to cook. The kitchen was gorgeous, nothing too crazy size wise but it looked brand new with modern appliances. You couldn't wait to cook a meal. When Mera and his men left, you saw a box on the counter. A brand cooking set, pots and pans.
