Kai's POV
After scribbling a quick note for Nya, I carefully set it on her bedside table. "You need to rest. We're in the medbay, so call if you need anything. We'll be tracking the villains down. Take care of yourself," I wrote, trying to keep my tone as light as possible. She needed to know she was safe, but I also wanted her to understand how important it was to recover.
I step out of the room and close the door behind me, feeling the weight of responsibility settle on my shoulders again. As I walk to the medbay, I can hear the familiar sounds of my friends discussing their plans to track down the villains. It's a welcome distraction.
"Alright, let's get to work," I say, joining the others as they gather around the table covered in maps and intel about the Vengestone.
Nya's POV
I slowly blink awake, disoriented as sunlight spills through the window. My heart races as I take in the familiar surroundings—my room, untouched since I'd been gone. The comforting decor, the colors that were once so vibrant, feel muted now, like they belong to a different life. I turn my head and spot the note on my bedside table.
Hey, Nya,
You need to rest. We're in the medbay, so call if you need anything. We'll be tracking the villains down. Take care of yourself
—Kai
A wave of emotion washes over me, gratitude mingled with the ache of knowing my brother is worried. I'm back, but I can't help but feel like a ghost haunting a place that's trying to remember me. I push myself up, determined to see him.
As I make my way down the hall, I notice the medbay door is slightly ajar. I knock lightly before pushing it open. "Kai?"
The sight of him talking with the others fills me with warmth, but my resolve falters as I take a step inside.
"Nya!" He spins around, eyes wide with surprise. "You shouldn't be out of bed!"
"I'm fine," I insist, trying to stand taller. "I just wanted to see you all."
He huffs, a frown etched deeply into his features. "You need to get back to bed. No arguing."
"But I just woke up!" I protest, stepping closer. "What's going on? What are we up against? I can't just sit here and do nothing, especially after coming back from the sea!"
"Nya, you're still weak from everything you've been through. You need to rest. Come on, at least three hours," he replies, his voice firm yet concerned.
I cross my arms defiantly. "Three hours? That's ridiculous! I've been gone for so long. I can't just sleep while you guys are out there fighting!"
He sighs, running a hand through his hair. "Look, I know it's frustrating, but you need to take care of yourself first. We've got the situation under control. Just... give yourself a little time."
My frustration boils over. "But what if you need me? What if something happens and I'm not there? I can't let you guys handle everything without me!"
Kai steps closer, his expression softening. "You being well is what matters right now. If you push yourself too hard, you won't be any good to us. I can't lose you again."
I can see the worry etched on his face, and it tugs at my heart. "Fine, three hours. But you better fill me in on what's happening when I wake up."
"Deal," he says, relief washing over him as he heads toward the door. "I'll be right back."
