The team's clock out finally rang, and I was able to have my short-term rest against the world. I let out a sigh as I took out my bag from my locker, my energy drained out intensely.

My back is sore as hell, the pain incomprehensible to even understand. I straightened my back before feeling a slap on my ass. Fucking Vee.

"Stop touching my ass!" I whined, but I wasn't mad at it.

"Alrighty, bronde face. I won't touch it again." Vee grinned, a sign that she's doing it all over and breaking her own promise. I flipped her off and that let out a bitter laugh on Vee's mouth. Pathetic rascal.

As I was walking down the hall to the parking lot, I heard a voice call out. "Gwen!" I turned around, seeing Vee with Lia, another nurse from the 3rd floor. They both looked excited, as if God gave them the blessings they always wanted but never needed.

My eyebrows furrowed, not wanting to waste my time on their stupid stuff and delusional situations.

"Have you heard?" Lia exclaimed as if she's gonna explode.

"No, I haven't." I replied sarcastically before Vee let out a crackling laugh that is even more annoying than earlier.

Lia scoffed at my remark before smiling widely with enthuse scribbled on her face. I looked at her confusingly, my brain debating to admit that she's truly crazy.

She opened her phone and showing me a whole fucking article with the brightness settled to the highest. I squinted my eyes before letting my fingers dance on the screen to adjust the fucking brightness that is radiating on my eyes.

Lia's smile was still curled up firmly that my eyes started to recognize her as Pennywise the fucking radiating clown.

I read the article calmly and quickly before my attention goes back to them with a confused look.

"And? What the hell is this about?" I asked while shifting my leg to avoid hitting Vee's.

"So, we all know that Mr. Quinns' daughter is currently admitted here due to unexpected random symptoms of an unknown illness or something?" Lia explained, my eyelids starting to heavy up.

"You mean, Bea Quinns? The patient that is believed to have pneumonia?" I corrected before shifting again.

"Yes, that one. And you know fucking well that her father is like the founder of this one Hockey League thing?" Lia asked with a dab of explainable statements again, making me irritated.

"Lia, just tell her." Vee stepped in as she munched on her gum.

"Okay, okay. So, the head doctors of NewYork-Presbyterian, which is our hospital we are working on, are currently examining us nurses and finding the most suitable one to become Bea's personal nurse thingy-"

"And it is highly predicted that the nurse they would choose is nobody than you." Vee interrupted before they both looked at me proudly.

I narrowed them closely, still not getting the point of this conversation. "And?"

Both Lia and Vee looked at each other before turning their gaze back at me, watching my eyes demanding a true and understandable explanation.

"Okay, whatever. You'll be moved to the Quinns mansion A.K.A their household and I think you know fucking well how many rumors the Quinns got involved to. Especially-"

"Sheena Quinns. She is rumored to be dating the hockey superstar, Xayl Marlowe." Lia's eyes sparkled when she mentioned the fucking hockey player whom almost all of the nurses would drool for.

Then, there was an awkward silence that started to thicken among us in a slow, but firm burn.

"One question," I squeaked. "Where is the tension here?"

My question floated in the air in a calm motion before Vee eventually spoke up.

"You're fucking gorgeous" Vee complimented with a big smile. Now I get her point.

She wants me to steal someone else's man by flexing my ass and letting my hair down like a shitty ass slut.

"I'm not stealing a man-"

"C'mon, Gwendolyn!"

"My name ain't Gwendolyn you fucking shit-"

"It doesn't matter!"

I glared at her and just showed me a sheepish look.

"I'm getting this straight for once in a lifetime: I'm not marrying or stealing anyone. Ever." I snapped my fingers at each syllable. "Now, goodbye. Have a fun night." I ended the conversation by giving them a thumbs up before turning my heel around and walked away towards my car.

I managed to reach my apartment door and unlocking it before eventually crawling awkwardly to get inside. I crawled towards the living room and sprawling to the couch like a child before finally relaxing and fishing out my phone.

It wasn't until three minutes later, I got a call from the head doctors: Dr. Lee.

****

Me: Hello?

Dr. Lee: Ms. Mildred, our team, and the CNO (Chief Nursing Officer) have seen the way you've saved a patient that was having cardiac arrest. And honestly, we are utterly impressed by seeing this on a registered nurse like you.

Me: Well, thank you.

Dr. Lee: And not just that, Ms. Mildred. But, recently, the daughter of Sir Antonio Quinns has been believed to have pneumonia and Sir Quinns has demanded one of our best nurses to accompany his daughter twenty-four seven until she's recovered. We've decided to offer this to you because we've seen your efforts on saving our patients and pulling them back to life. So, how do you say, Ms. Mildred?

****

My heart was thumping as Dr. Lee explained his approach. I wanted to scream this on the top of my lungs and tell the world that I'm gonna earn more money than my average one.

****

Me: That's amazing, Dr. Lee. Of course, I'll accept the offer.

Dr. Lee: Very well. I would like you to come to my office tomorrow morning so you could meet the requirements and also Mr. Quinns. Have a nice day, Ma'am.

Me: H-have a nice day.

****

"Yes!" I screamed as soon the call ended, feeling the victory slicing onto my life. I got offered to look after the child of one of the most richest founders in New York.

The more richer, the more salary I get.
