When Kat woke up, she found herself lying on the cold floor, a blanket draped over her. Her body ached from the impact, but her mind was racing. As her vision adjusted, she noticed the yellow-haired man from earlier, standing and talking with a group of people dressed in green capes and military uniforms. Her eyes widened in panic.

They're the military cops, she thought, her heart pounding. I need to run.

Without wasting a second, Kat bolted in the opposite direction. Her fear drove her forward, but in her haste, she collided head-on with someone. Stumbling back, she looked up, her breath catching in her throat—it was the raven-haired man from before, his face cold and emotionless.

Panic set in, and Kat tried to dart in another direction, but it was too late. The man swiftly grabbed her, twisting her arms behind her neck, locking her in place. She struggled, wincing as pain shot through her body.

"Erwin Tanchou, the girl's back on her feet and ready to flee," the raven-haired man said, tightening his grip, causing Kat to wince harder.

Erwin looked over with a faint smile. "Relax, Levi. Take it easy on her."

Kat's rage boiled over. "You killed my papa! My mama! My father wasn't a traitor, but you—you—you're the traitors!" she spat through gritted teeth. "Just wait... you'll all pay the price."

Erwin's smile softened, understanding the pain in her words. "Calm down," he said gently. "We're not the military cops. We're the Scouts."

Kat froze, her breath hitching as the word echoed in her mind. The Scouts. She remembered her father's last words: The Scouts will help us.

Tears welled up in her eyes, her voice trembling. "Why... why did you take so long? Nande? Why?"

Erwin exchanged a glance with Levi, nodding for him to release her. Levi hesitated for a brief moment but then unclasped his hands, letting her go.

Kat's legs gave out beneath her, and with a soft thud, she collapsed to the ground, the weight of everything finally crashing down on her.

Erwin knelt down beside Kat, his voice calm yet firm. "I'm aware of what you're going through," he said softly. "It's going to be hard, but there's nothing we can do to change what's already happened. Why don't you join the Scouts, for now?"

Levi raised an eyebrow at the suggestion, clearly disapproving, but remained silent. Kat, still in shock, blinked at Erwin, her mind struggling to process everything. "But... I don't even know you," she muttered, her voice trembling. "Why would I join you?"

Erwin offered a faint smile. "Oh, if that's your concern, then let me clear things up. I'm Erwin Smith, Commander of the Scouts, and I was a close friend of your father."

Kat's eyes widened at his words, her confusion deepening.

"Your father," Erwin continued, his tone steady, "was trying to uncover a plot within the military cops. He was working with me on the matter. But when things went out of hand, the military branded him a traitor and gave the order to kill him on sight."
