Today, I was assigned to follow Kamala and Doug around Washington, D.C., as they toured small businesses to highlight the newly signed bill. But for me, this was more than just work—it was my moment to subtly get even with Kamala for the way she treated me yesterday. I'd give her exactly what she craved, and then act as if she didn't exist.
Before going to bed last night, I came up with a simple plan—it wasn't anything extravagant. I grabbed my Polaroid camera and did a personal photoshoot. The first photo featured me wearing a robe, but as the series progressed, the robe gradually came off.
As she would walk alongside Doug, I plotted to discreetly hand her the photos throughout the day, one by one. I knew it would drive her desire, but with all eyes on her, she wouldn't be able to act on it. She'd just have to watch me from afar, unable to do a thing.
I stood with Ruby and the others in front of a small business, waiting for Kamala and Doug to arrive. My camera was ready in hand, but tucked discreetly in my pant pocket was a small stack of photos, waiting for the perfect moment.
"So, when is she supposed to get here?" I asked Ruby, turning my head toward her as she stood next to me.
"She should be here any minute," Ruby replied, glancing at me. "You've got your camera ready, right?"
"Yes, it's ready."
"Good. We need to make sure we capture plenty of shots of them together—it plays well with the press," she added.
I fought the urge to roll my eyes but nodded instead.
"Here we go," Ruby said as we both watched an SUV pull up beside us on the street. The Secret Service agents were the first to step out, quickly opening the door for Kamala and Doug. Doug exited first, with Kamala following close behind, stepping onto the sidewalk. I observed as they made their way toward us, hand in hand, moving in front of the group.
The entire time, she didn't glance at me once. It only made me more eager to slip her the photos I had waiting.
We started walking behind them, and I lifted my camera to snap a few photos of them together. I didn't put much effort into it—no searching for the perfect angles or creative shots. I just did the bare minimum.
Then I was ready for my first move. Using my role as an excuse to get any shot I wanted, I picked up my pace, speed-walking up to Kamala's side. As I neared her, I discreetly slipped my hand into my pocket and pulled out the first photo.
"Hey!" I said as I placed the photo in Kamala's free hand, the one not clasped by Doug's. I pressed it firmly into her palm, causing her to instinctively take it from me. My "hey" drew both of their attention. "I'm just going to snap a quick photo of you two looking at the camera."
I could see the confusion on Kamala's face as she tried to process what I'd just handed her, but with Doug unaware, they both quickly put on smiles for the camera. I lifted my camera, snapped a quick shot, and then casually made my way back to the group trailing behind.
I watched as Kamala subtly lifted the photo for a quick glance. The moment she saw it, she discreetly slipped it into her jean pocket. Biting down on my bottom lip, I tried to stifle a small giggle at her reaction.
We made our way into the first small business, a cozy bookstore. I snapped photos as Kamala and Doug met with the owner and were shown around the shop. At one point, Doug got distracted by a book on a nearby shelf. That was my cue.
