Tunnel Vision by Justin Timberlake

I walked into the White House today with a different kind of confidence. If I could have, I would have ran down the hallways screaming about how the President had fingered me, but I wasn't about to lose my job over it. Instead, I channeled that confidence into something a little bolder: I wore a sleek blue dress, no pantyhose. I wanted her to notice my legs.

As I headed toward the West Wing to carry out the orders Kamala had given me, I unexpectedly ran into Ruby.

"Hey, Ruby!" I called out a bit louder than usual, trying to get her attention. Of course, she was walking down the hall with her eyes glued to that damn phone.

Ruby stopped mid-stride, snapping her head up at the sound of my voice. The moment she realized it was me, her face lit up with a huge smile, and she quickly picked up her pace, heading toward me.

"Hey, girl!" she greeted me as soon as she reached my side. "So, how was it seeing your best friend?"

"It was great, thank you again for setting that up for me," I nodded, appreciative, as she walked with me toward the Oval Office.

"Of course! It actually worked out perfectly since Harris had a private meeting with the interviewer in their office, so I knew she wouldn't need anything from you."

"Wait—" I stopped in my tracks, causing Ruby to halt as well, mirroring my sudden pause.

"She had a scheduled meeting in the interviewer's office? That was official?"

Ruby stared at me for a moment before a small chuckle escaped her. "Yeah, it was all scheduled. She was in the office the whole time. That's where she was escorted from, anyway."

I stared at Ruby, trying to make sense of what she was saying. But if I connected the dots, it sounded like Kamala wasn't supposed to be there in the break room. Did she go in on purpose? How did she even know I was there? Suddenly, the memory of Kamala making me lose control just a few days ago faded into the background.

"Right," I nodded, keeping my expression as neutral as possible, putting on my best poker face before continuing to walk alongside Ruby.

"Why do you ask, Camilla?" Ruby asked, her curiosity evident.

"Oh, no real reason," I shrugged casually. "I just thought I saw her wandering around, so maybe I caught her on her way to the office."

"Huh, maybe."

Ruby and I finally reached the Oval Office, but just as I was about to approach the door, she caught me off guard.

"Hey," she said, causing me to turn my head toward her. "Why are you meeting with her so early in the morning?"

"Uh, she wanted to finally go over the photos I've taken around the White House."

"Oh, right, I almost forgot about those. Well, hopefully, I'll see you around. I'm sure I will, but just in case."

"See you later, Ruby," I said with a gentle smile as she headed back in the direction she was originally going. The moment she was out of sight, the smile disappeared from my face. I didn't forget that I had just been given a real reason to be upset with Kamala.

I turned to the door and knocked three times, pressing my ear close until I heard that familiar voice inviting me in. As I opened the door and stepped inside, I kept my head down, not lifting it until the door was shut behind me. I was angry, but I can't lie—I was afraid to let her see it.
