Touchin, Lovin by Trey Songz

I arrived at the White House with my camera bag slung over my shoulder, dressed in a simple skirt suit. Since it was a warmer day, I figured the skirt would help me stay cool in the heat.

The rest of last night, I couldn't stop thinking about why Kamala touched me like that. Don't get me wrong, I loved every second of it—it's a moment I'll never forget. But what were her intentions? Did she really mean it that way, or was she just being her naturally touchy self? And if it was just friendly, why did it feel so... intimate?

But I promised myself I wouldn't let that lingering memory distract me. I had a long day ahead. I was meeting Ruby in the West Wing, where we'd wait for Kamala and then follow her through her meetings for the day.

I made my way through the massive building, mentally mapping out where I needed to go. Luckily, I had no trouble finding the West Wing, and when I spotted Ruby standing by the door of the Oval Office, I felt a wave of relief. Thank God she got there before me—I was worried I'd be the only one hanging around outside, looking like a total creep.

"Hey, Ruby," I said as I finally reached her. She had been looking down at her phone but glanced up when she heard my voice.

"Hey, you," she said with a warm smile. "I've been waiting for you so eagerly, you know."

"And why is that?"

"I wanted to know why they had you ride back with Harris."

So much for my plan to push away yesterday's memories. There was no way I'd tell her the whole truth. If I couldn't even confide in my best friend, I certainly wasn't about to spill it to one of the President's assistants.

"She just wanted to see the photos I took after the interview. I guess she was a little impatient," I chuckled. If anyone ever noticed that I laugh every time I lie, I'd be in serious trouble.

"That's it? And he couldn't just tell me that?" Ruby rolled her eyes. I quietly exhaled in relief; glad she was too busy holding a grudge against that agent to pry any further into my private car ride.

"Yeah, no idea why he couldn't just say that" I agreed. Though, part of me couldn't help but wonder what Kamala told her agents about why she wanted me to ride back with them—clearly something they couldn't share.

"Alright, we'll just have to wait here until we spot a group of those guys coming out with Harris. It's a waiting game for now. Stay ready to move as soon as the first agent steps out."

"Got it," I said, positioning myself right next to Ruby to keep a clear view of the white door. We stood there for a while—Ruby fiddling with her phone, while I kept my focus, zoning out on that door.

After a few minutes, the door swung open. Ruby immediately snapped her head up, and we both watched as the first agent stepped out. Without missing a beat, Ruby began moving toward the small group that followed behind. I kept pace with her this time, though part of me wished I hadn't, because she headed straight for Kamala, who was surrounded by the crowd.

"Madam Harris," Ruby said, stepping up beside Kamala. I kept myself close behind her, hoping to stay out of Kamala's direct line of sight. I wasn't ready to face that conversation yet, so I did my best to blend in, hiding in plain sight.

"I'd like to go over a few things before the first meeting, and also discuss where Camilla will be positioned during it."

Oh, fantastic. Thanks, Ruby. As soon as Kamala heard my name, she turned her head sharply to make eye contact with me. She smiled but didn't say a word, quickly shifting her attention back to Ruby to continue their conversation.
