Once all the students were sat in the Great hall, Delilah felt like the sorting ceremony dragged on for hours. During the sorting she heard commotion a few seats down where harry was sitting.
"Potter... Potter!" Draco Malfoy whispered to get Harry's attention "Is it true you fainted? I mean you actually fainted!" he teased.
"shove off Malfoy" she heard Ron say to him.
"Hey Draco. I don't know why your acting so tough, from what I heard you were running up and down the train corridors screaming for your mummy." Lilah taunts him, all she gets is a glare form the boy who now has pink cheeks from embarrassment.
"that was- ""Amazing" the twins said.
"Well, I'm allowed to taunt him... he's my cousin" she says nonchalantly.
"your cousin?!" the boys exclaim.
"yeah, well more like second cousin. My father is cousins with Narcissa." She says.
Their conversation was then interrupted by dumbledore giving out the start of term notices.
"First, I'm pleased to welcome Professor R.J. Lupin, who has kindly consented to fill the post of Defence Against the Dark Arts. Good luck to you, Professor." He says proudly towards his old student. Deliah, the twins, Harry, Ron and Hermione were the ones who clapped the loudest for him.
"As some of you may know, Professor Kettleburn, our Care of Magical Creatures teacher for many years, has decided to retire in order to spend more time with his remaining limbs. Fortunately, I'm delighted to announce that his place will be filled by none other than our own Rubeus Hagrid!" Cheers filled the room after Dumbledore announced that Hagrid would be teaching this year.
"Finally, on a more disquieting note, Hogwarts -- at the request of the Ministry of Magic -- will, until further notice, play host to the Dementors of Azkaban. The Dementors will be stationed at the entrances to the grounds. While they are under strict orders not to enter the castle itself, you will on occasion see them as you go about your daily activities. Under no circumstances are you to approach them. It is not in the nature of a Dementor to be forgiving." After he finished his speech an eery atmosphere settled over the Great hall, and the majority of the students turned to stare at Delilah, knowing she was the daughter of the escaped mass murderer, Sirius Black.
Hours later after the feast, it was now pitch black outside and Delilah couldn't sleep after what happened with the dementor on the train, so she made her way down to the common for some peace and quiet, when she noticed Harry sitting on one of the sofas.
"Harry? What are you doing up" she questions him.
He turns round upon hearing her voice and gives her a sheepish grin "I couldn't sleep after what happened today on the train."
"You and me both bud. You want to talk about it?" she asks him softly.
"When I passed out... I heard a woman screaming. I think it was my mother, the night she died..." he replied quietly.
"Oh Harry... I can't even begin to imagine what that must've been like" she sympathized to the young boy.
"Did you hear any voices when you passed out?" He asked timidly.
"No. I didn't. But apparently, I did make the dementor go away." She replies slowly.
"What? How?" he asks quickly
"I'm not even sure myself but Fred said that right before I passed out there was a big gust of wind that filled the compartment and pushed the dementor out." She says like she's trying to figure it out herself.
"Wow..." Harry says amazed.
"yeah... But Harry listen to me" she says in a soft voice "You've got a lot going on right now okay, so if you ever need a little help or a chat... please come and find me. I love you like your my little brother and I hate to see you try and handle all the things you have on your plate at the minute."
"Thankyou Lil. You're like the big sister I always needed, and I love you for that." Harry replied softly to her.
Delilah tried to keep her tears at bay in front of the young boy but she leaps forward and pulls the boy into a big hug.
"right, its late. You need to try and go to sleep. You have a busy first day tomorrow." She says in a motherly tone.
Harry chuckles and gives her one last hug before making his way up to his dorm to sleep for the night.
