the night air was cool and quiet, a stark diffence between the insane show id finished only a few hours ago.

we had been traveling on the bus and had finally arrived at the hotel.

id sat in the corner with my headphones on, ignoring everyone.

robert, my managers fiancé, comes over to me. "come with me" he nudges my shoulder with his own and I look up at him.

"where?"

"just come with me" I didn't really want to, but the thought of being in a car alone with him, away from liam, is too hard to resist.

"okay, but leave your phone here. please" i mumble, silently begging him because the last thing I need, is to have anyone tracking us.

"why?"

"just do it" I slide my phone into my bag, handing my backpack to my mom.

"don't give this to anyone" i tell my mom.

the last person I want having my bag is Liam.

"do you want me to pop it in your hotel room?"

"no, don't let it out of your sight"

"okay baby" my mom kisses me on the cheek.

I see the worry lines in her face and I hate that I know what im doing to her.

"it's been forever since we've spent some alone time together" robert smiles, pressing the button on the key to unlock what looks like a rental red lexus.

"not long enough" I joke, forcing a smile.

i was so grateful for him and this temporary escape, but beneath the surfacee, the truth was niggling deep inside of me.

i wanted to tell robert everything.

he was driving for what felt like forever, quietly singing along to britney spears.

"rob, can I talk to you about something" my heart was pounding louder than the music.

I felt like I couldn't breathe.

"always" he reaches the dial, turning the music down.

i can tell this was probably a ruse to get me alone so that we could talk.

but it was working.

"it's pete" I finally muttered, his name rolling off my tongue like poison.

at the mention of my boyfriend, robert stiffened, his face turning serious.

my relationship had always hovered in the background, an unsaid balance in my relationships with everyone around me.

especially the ones closest.
