THREE WEEKS LATER
SATURDAY, SEPT. 9th4:35 p.m.
"Andreas, take yuh hand off'a me. Mi nah guh pan that," I said, slapping his hand away.
"Either this or the zipline. Stop gwaan like yah likkle pitney nuh and come," He said, grabbing my hand.
"Supposed the sum'n pop? Why yuh feel like me supposed to inna the air fi 15 minutes? Come we go back," I muttered, pulling him.
"And remember me just not too long eat," I added.
His arm slipped around my waist and he laughed. There were 3 couples before us and I really don't want to go on that. The zipline is even worse because who in their right mind would risk their life like that? Well, aside from Andreas and the multiple people on there.
We're on our third date and I don't know why I agreed to come here. It was fun and all until he said we had to choose one of the rides up here. My heart was racing and yes, I'm terrified of heights.
With the airplane it's different but with this, it could break anytime. I didn't want to go at all and I don't care how childish I look in front of these people.
Dem can nyam shit.
I hesitated, my feet rooted to the ground, as Andreas led me to the Sky Explorer Chairlift. "Andreas, nuh you seh yuh love me? Why yuh wah do me this? Yuh know mi don't like height already," I complained.
Mi wah go back a me yaad.
Andreas's calm demeanor and playfulness never wavered. "Princess, it's a gentle ride. Mi ago deh beside yuh the whole time."
I took a deep breath and nodded, trying to muster up the courage to go. We settled into the chairlift, and Andreas wrapped his arm around me, pulling me close. "Just relax and enjoy the view."
"Doh chat to me," I muttered.
"Ah, make me let yuh guh then," He said and I grabbed his hand before he could move it.
Heavenly Father, please doh make me drop. Yuh know I'm a good person and I don't deserve this. I should have a mind of my own but we should enjoy life. Please let me get down safe and sound. Thank you.
As the chairlift began to move, I felt my anxiety spike. My heart raced, and my palms grew sweaty. I tried to focus on Andreas's calm presence, but my eyes fixed on the ground far, far below.
The chairlift climbed higher and higher, and my fear turned to panic. I could feel my breath coming in short gasps, and my vision blurred. Andreas's voice was a gentle whisper in my ear, "Just relax."
"Mi wah c-come dung," I said, my leg shaking.
"Jamiyah, relax and stop look down. Focus ahead," He said, softly.
