"Well, at least we know she'll get along with Evil Tween just fine," Dean muttered.
______
Dean was right. Krissy and Emmy had gotten along just fine as they sat in the first two seats in the back of the car. It was mostly silent in the car as Dean drove.
Krissy leaned forward, arms resting on the center console as she stuck her head between the seats. "Hey, I have a question."
"His old man dementia doesn't allow him to answer those," Emmy said.
"Alright, here's the deal," Dean began. "I'm a fun guy. I'm actually awesome, okay? But right now I'm not in the mood. I'm neck deep in some serious crap. And if this wasn't an emergency, I would drop your ass off at the nearest mall."
"Dean, behave." I reached over, placing a hand on his that rested on his leg. "Go ahead, Krissy. What'd you want to ask?"
"What serious crap?" Krissy asked instead.
"Revenge crap, alright? Now shut up," Dean told her. "Eat a cookie or something."
"Dean Winchester," I hissed.
"Oh, Daddy, you're in trouble," Wyatt sang from the back of the car.
"Yeah, well, if I'm in trouble, so are you," Dean said.
"Nu-uh."
"Daddy, can we get cookies?" Rory asked.
"Now look what you've done," I told him.
Krissy sat back into her seat, reaching for her earbuds. She pulled them out a second later, sitting forward once more. "One thing doesn't make sense though--"
"How Dean keeps Saige around?" Emmy suggested.
"Okay, two things," Krissy amended. "But my dad is a pretty great hunter and your brother is the size of a car, so how did this thing get them both?"
Dean sighed. "Vetalas usually hunt in pairs. Sam and your dad both assumed it was one thing hunting solo."
"Why did they think that?" Krissy asked.
"So they never stop asking this many questions? Thanks, Si, you should've warned before we had five of them," Dean muttered. "Because they had the wrong info," he told her. "Or best available. Our dad took down a loner years ago. Sam has his journal. And your dad must've been going on the same facts."
"And you know different because...?"
"Because Si and I hunted one that turned out to be two, couple years back," Dean answered.
"Dean, that was almost nine years ago now," I reminded him.
"What?"
"That's the old man dementia sneaking up on ya," Emmy said.
"And you never told Sam? Wow, thanks. How about sharing that with the rest of the class so we don't all get killed?" Krissy snapped.
"Sam was away at Stanford, smart-ass," Dean said, making me slap his arm.
"Sam went to college? But I thought you said your dad was a hunter?" Krissy asked.
"He was. We were. Sam quit, went to college," Dean said. "Si was going to go too."
Krissy was quiet then, eyes wide as if she had never realized it was an option.
Dean paused for a brief moment. "You could too, you know? Go to college. Be a hunter-slash-pediatrician."
Krissy rolled her eyes, looking away with a small smile.
I smiled a little.
