Biana's POV

When I saw Fitz, my first and immediate reaction was to drop everything and run to him.

Then, my brain kicked in.

He was here the whole freaking time?

So, instead of hugging him like he was going for, I slapped him across the face so hard Grizel would've been proud.

Fitz stumbled backwards, a little shocked.

"Sis, what was that for? Eleven years and I get slapped across my face?"

That's when I decided to hug him. I practically jumped into his arms and squeezed him so hard, Fitz had to tap my shoulder to make me let go so her wouldn't choke to death.

"I missed you, sis."

I pulled back from the hug faster than Dad could say there's no reason to worry.

"Have you been here the whole time? Living with humans? You could have come back! Fitz!"

Fitz cringed and glanced at his feet. Hi brown hair had been buzzed much shorter, and he had a hit of five-o-clock shadow on his face.

"I needed you! And you were here? Alvar is dead!"

I felt a presence behind me, and a hand on my shoulder. It was Tam.

"Bia, maybe you should--"

"What? What should I do, exactly? Let him get off easy? IT'S BEEN ELEVEN YEARS!"

My shouts were attracting the attention of other people at the small base. Several of which were watching Fit, Tam, and I go back and forth like a tennis match. A few were surrounding Natalie and Pat to question them.

"Biana, please let me explain--"

"No! I waited around like--"

Tam interrupted me. "Bia, please let him talk. He hasn't seen you in eleven years, either."

Rex ran up from where he was hiding near Sophie.

"Mom, who's this guy? Hey, he kinda looks like you!"

Fitz gaped at Rex. "Did--did he just call you 'mom'? Wait," Fitz glared at Tam, who backed away sheepishly. "You! I--"

I stepped in between them and held out my arms.

"Fitz, Tam was there for me when you weren't. You have no right to be angry at him."

I crossed my arms in defiance. I felt bad for being so angry earlier. Fitz's contorted face melted and his posture slumped over.

"I'm so sorry Biana. I would've come back, but my home crystal was destroyed, and the Neverseen did something to my telepathy, that's why Sophie couldn't track me. I couldn't find my way through any of the illusions that guard the Lost Cities, so I had to stay here. I'm really sorry."

His sharp Elf accent was almost gone, replaced by a more human sounding voice. Tam wasn't saying a word, and Rex was hiding behind me again.

Then Rex moved.

"Are you my Uncle? Mom and Dad told me about you. They said you went missing."

Fitz blinked, glancing from Tam to me to Rex over and over.

"I... I am, yeah. I did go missing. I couldn't come home. What's your name?"

"Rex."

Fitz shot Dex a look. Dex nodded sadly. Fitz seemed to understand.

"Well, it's really nice to meet you. I'm sorry I wasn't around."

I felt like the last sentence was directed to me. So I uncrossed my arms and dragged my gaze away from the ground.

"I forgive you, Fitz. But you still have some explaining to do."

Fitz smiled the tiniest bit. Natalie decided to make a move.

"Well, I guess you met boss dude."

Fitz rolled his eyes. "Do not call me boss dude."

"Whatever, boss dude."

Keefe held out his hand for a fist bump with Natalie. Then he broke away from Sophie and Eliza and gave Fitz that guy hug they always do, patting each other on the back and muttering 'hey bro' under their breath.

Guys are so weird. I'm an adult, and I still acknowledge this.

Everyone ended up hugging Fitz. The look on his face when Sophie and Keefe introduced Eliza was priceless.

It went from shocked to well duh to THIS TINY CHILD IS SO CUTE in less than five seconds.

Before any other humans could question why there were a bunch of Elves in the base, sirens started going off and people started running everywhere.

"Bomb strike!" Natalie yelled. She grabbed Nissa's hand and dragged her along, which made Dex and Lex follow her into some kind of shelter. Then she popped back out and gestured for everyone to follow her.

More darkness.

Just great.

First the shelter at Alluveterre. Now the shelter at Zac Alpha Charlie base.

"Not cool," I mumble. Tam slides in last and slams the round door shut. He finds me in the dark (Thanks to super night vision he developed) and grabbed my hand.

Rex whimpered as an explosion rocked the world.

And another.

And another.

And.

Another.
