She recognized me - l could see it in her eyes. Her gaze dropped to my hand once more, and she noticed my ring. I gestured for her to stay where she was just as I saw her take a step toward me.
"Yes, gentlemen?" Lucas approached the table, addressing us.
Lucas hadn't seen me yet; he had no idea he was moments away from greeting his death. Among all these people, none were his guests-they were all my men, disguised as affluent brats.
"This one's mine," I said, pointing to Alisha. "Name your price."
"Why her?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
"That's none of your concern. You're getting your money," I replied, giving him a dark, unyielding look-enough to make him tremble.
"All yours then," he shrugged, as I extended my hand to Alisha, bringing her to my side.
I seated her beside me, draping my suit jacket over her to cover the pathetic excuse for a dress she was wearing.
"Before you take her, can my guy and I have her for an hour?" Lucas leaned down and asked as I began rolling up my sleeves.
Before he could utter another word, I grabbed him by the back of the neck and slammed his face into the glass table, shattering it into pieces.
His men raised their guns at me, only to find themselves outnumbered, with my men pointing their guns at their heads. My numbers surpassed his.
I pressed my shoe against his face, forcing the shards of glass deeper into his skin, and whispered, "Kill them all."
A second later, the sound of over sixty guns firing simultaneously filled the air. Alisha buried her face in my arms, while Lucas screamed in agony.
One by one, his men dropped dead, and the gunfire gradually faded into silence.
"Did he touch you?" I asked Alisha, my tone gentle yet laced with darkness.
She told me everything, including how a giant man named Jerry had slapped her. I asked her if she recognized him among the dead bodies, but she said he wasn't there.
"Find him," I commanded, and several of my men went to search the mansion.
She pointed out an old man standing by my side, holding a gun. "He touched me."
"I know, that was part of the plan," I responded, meeting her gaze.
The old guard stepped closer to her and said, "I'm sorry, ma'am. I had to."
Still holding onto my arm, I stood up as my men brought forth a giant, bearded man.
"That's him?" I asked her, and she nodded.
"Make him kneel," I ordered as my guards dragged him toward me.
"I'm sorry, I did it on his command," he pleaded, looking at me, then at his boss, who was still writhing in pain on the ground.
"I'm sorry too," I replied, raising my hand to my guards, signaling for a machete. As he began to beg, I silenced him by severing his arm in a single, swift motion, his blood splattering across my face.
"Bury him alive," I commanded, and they took him away.
Turning back to the man of the evening, I spoke and grabbed Lucas by his hair, dragging him to a pillar and forcing him to sit.
"You killed my brother, and I killed yours. We can stop this here and settle," he whimpered, the same pathetic plea.
" The same weak coward everytime," I sneered, turning to Alisha.
Wiping her tears, I asked, "Do you want to take revenge?"
She looked at me, anger blazing in her eyes, and nodded.
I seated myself on the couch, pulling her onto my lap, and placed the gun in her trembling hands, guiding them.
"Put your finger on the trigger," I instructed, and she obeyed, though her hands quivered.
"Head or heart?" I asked, steadying the gun with her.
"Head," she replied, as we watched Lucas beg and scream, struggling in vain against the guards holding him in place.
"Shoot," I whispered in her ear, and she pulled the trigger, the bullet piercing straight through his skull.
This does not compensate for the loss of my brother or the grief my family endures, but bringing it to an end here is the best I can do for future safety and a fresh start.
"I never thought I'd do something like this," she said, clinging to me.
"I broke my rules for you too," I replied,
only to feel her punch my chest in response-a clear indication of what it meant.
I picked her up in my arms and carried her out.
* Six Months Later *
"Are you scared to train with your wife now?" she teased, poking me as she punched the heavy bag, her sportswear doing nothing but turning me on.
"How many times do I have to put you in your place, little mess?" I replied, watching her sweat.
"Oh, cut the crap and fight," she taunted.
I got up from my place, stepping toward her with each step causing her to back up until her back was pressed against the wall.
"Yes, sweetheart?" I asked, grabbing her waist and pressing my fingertips tightly against her skin.
She took a deep breath and pressed her lips against mine. "You fell for it again."
"Always," I murmured.
