The piranha

The entire day Reece had been particularly on edge. He had noticed an increase in the creepy laughs from Deliah and he could have sworn every time he looked away Deliah's eyes immediately fixated on him. He could feel her staring and it sent cold chills down his spine.

He felt very uneasy about the new doll too. It was directly facing him, staring at him. When Reece left the room for his lunch break he heard Deliah talking to the new doll, “It's okay baby Reecey, you will be happy with your mummies soon.” Surely he didn't hear that right? He shook it off. There's no way that's what she said, right?

As the day was drawing to a close, Deliah put Reece even more on edge. He had never been scared of Deliah but something was different. As 6pm rolled around, 30 minutes before the nursery closed, Deliah picked up the new doll. She began humming and laughing as she brushed through the doll's blonde hair. It felt like this went on for hours to Reece, he was truly unnerved.

He tried not to judge people, he fully believed in the saying ‘whatever makes you happy’ but there was something sinister about this interaction he was witnessing. He decided to try and ask her what she was doing, “Are you okay Deliah? What are you doing?” Deliah didn't look at him, instead she turned the doll over so it was facing her “I'm brushing your hair Reecey, don't be silly!” she giggled to herself.

Did she just talk to the doll as if it was him? Reece's mind was racing. The end of the day couldn't come quicker, he didn't like this one bit. He wanted to go home with Marjorie and forget any of this had just happened. Little did he know, that wasn't gonna happen.

As soon as it hit 6:30pm, Reece started getting ready to leave the office. Deliah didn't move, instead she picked up the new blonde doll and began singing to it, “Little boy blue, come blow your horn, The sheep's in the meadow, the cow's in the corn. Where is that boy who looks after the sheep? He's under a haystack, fast asleep. Will you wake him? Oh no, not I, For if I do, he'll surely cry.”

Deliah looked at Reece and started maniacally laughing. He gave a nervous laugh back and quickly rushed to finish cleaning up for the next day, he couldn't bare to be in the room with her any longer.

It was then that Deliah saw the last kid leave, finally she could put her plan into action. She pushed the button on the remote, and every door in the nursery suddenly closed. There was no way in and out of rooms, and most importantly nobody could leave the nursery.

“Deliah what are you doing?” Reece demanded, he was terrified. The whole day she had been taunting him. Reece felt shivers run throughout his body as she finally put the doll back down on the desk. That was until she pointed the doll directly at him once again, he nervously swallowed and began trying to discreetly pry the door open.

Deliah slowly stood up, she turned to all her dolls “Are you ready babies?” Once again a chuckle left Deliah's throat. Reece tried to stay calm, “Ready for what Dee?” The sudden use of her nickname was an attempt to snap her out of whatever state of mind she was in, to remind her of their childhood memories together. It didn't work.

Deliah giggled as she took out the butcher knife from under her desk, it was time. Reece immediately started freaking out “Woah Deliah, what are you doing?” All she responded with was a creepy smile as she began walking closer and closer to Reece. He tried the door more frantically this time, there was no use though. There was no way out. No escape.

Reece instead backed himself into the corner of the room and tried to reason with Deliah, “Dee really think about this, what are you doing?” She carried on approaching him until she was close enough that he could feel the energy radiating off of her. She was excited?

“The piranha. What a silly nickname!” Deliah chuckled, “You sure seem like a piranha cowered in the corner.” Reece was so confused, Why was she doing this?

“You kept my Mia from me. We could have been so happy! I was always the second pick, never good enough for her. She told me she wasn't happy with you so why did she always go back? Always leave me? We could have a beautiful house and beautiful babies if it wasn't for you keeping her from me.”

Before Reece had a chance to reply and reason with her, she began stabbing him. Repeatedly and aggressively. She was giggling manically, her dolls watching the show. He had no time to explain himself but he was able to say one last thing. “Please leave Marjorie alone.” His final thoughts were all about Marjorie.

Once Deliah was satisfied, she walked back over to her desk and picked up the Reece doll. “Aww baby Reecey, mummy loves you! I will give you the best life ever!” She said as she kissed the doll and brought it in for a cuddle. She fully believed Reece's soul was now trapped inside the doll. This was now her baby.

Her white clothes were now coated in blood, and Reece was laid dead on the office floor. She once again sat back in her chair and brushed Reece's hair, humming the same tune as before.

THE PIRANHA

In memories embrace, we are gathered here today
To honour a soul so gentle and dear, there’s so much we need to say

He cherished his dear sister, their bond an unbreakable thread
He loved Marjorie deeply, there was so much left unsaid

The stars held his affection, as they twinkled through the night
Carly he adored you, you were truly his guiding light

From the stars he’s watching us, a light we can’t ignore
Reece’s final resting place, here lies The Piranha - forevermore

🖤
