Conan subtly reached into his pocket, fingers brushing against the familiar cool metal of his stun watch. The case had taken a sudden, puzzling turn, and Conan knew he needed to take control. He carefully aimed the watch at Kogoro, who was standing a few feet away, seemingly engrossed in his thoughts.

This was it. A quick shot, and Kogoro would be out cold, allowing Conan to solve the case as usual. He pressed the button, and the tiny needle shot out with precision.

But just as it was about to hit, Kogoro shifted, as if sensing something. The needle whizzed past his ear, embedding itself harmlessly into the wall behind him. Conan’s eyes widened in shock—this had never happened before.

Kogoro’s movement seemed almost too perfect, too deliberate. It was as if he knew exactly what was coming.

Kogoro slowly turned his head, his eyes narrowing as he scanned the room. They finally settled on Conan, who stood frozen, hand still on his watch. There was a silence that felt like it stretched for hours, though it was only a few seconds.

“Strange,” Kogoro murmured, his voice low. “I could’ve sworn I felt something just now…”

Conan swallowed hard, trying to keep his face neutral, but the growing unease inside him was difficult to hide. Kogoro’s gaze was sharp, scrutinizing, as if he was trying to piece together a puzzle of his own.

“Conan-kun,” Kogoro called out, a hint of suspicion lacing his tone. “You didn’t see anything unusual, did you?”

Conan forced a smile, his heart pounding in his chest. “N-No, Kogoro-ojisan. Maybe it was just your imagination?”

Kogoro raised an eyebrow, the corner of his mouth curling into a faint, knowing smile. “Perhaps… but you should be careful, Conan-kun. Sometimes, things aren’t always what they seem.”

With that, Kogoro turned back to the case, leaving Conan standing there, shaken. The boy genius had always prided himself on his ability to control every situation, but now, for the first time, he felt as though he was losing his grip.

Kogoro finished his deduction with a flourish, pointing directly at the true culprit, who stood frozen with shock. The room erupted in gasps, and Conan couldn’t help but feel a pang of unease. It wasn’t just the ease with which Kogoro had solved the case—it was the way he had done it, with a sharpness and clarity that Conan had never seen before.

As the police escorted the suspect away, Kogoro turned his gaze towards Conan. His eyes, usually lazy and indifferent, now held a glint of something that made Conan’s heart skip a beat.

“So, Conan-kun,” Kogoro said, his voice unusually steady, “what do you think of the way I solved the case? It was almost as if… someone was guiding me.”

Conan forced a smile, trying to keep his composure. “You were amazing, as always, Kogoro-ojisan!” he said, his voice higher than usual, betraying the nervousness creeping in.

Kogoro chuckled, but there was no warmth in it. He crouched down to Conan’s level, looking him straight in the eyes. “You know, Conan-kun, sometimes I get the feeling you’re not just a regular kid. The way you always seem to be around when things get interesting…”

Conan’s blood ran cold. Could it be…? No, it couldn’t. Kogoro was just being his usual clueless self, right?

But as Kogoro’s gaze lingered on him, Conan couldn’t shake the feeling that the older detective knew more than he let on. His mind raced with possibilities, each one more terrifying than the last. If Kogoro really did know the truth, what would he do?

Conan took a step back, trying to maintain his calm façade. “I just like to learn from the best, Kogoro-ojisan,” he replied, but his voice wavered, the words sounding hollow even to his own ears.

Kogoro straightened up, his eyes never leaving Conan’s. “Maybe so, kid. Maybe so.”

With that, he turned and walked away, leaving Conan standing there, heart pounding in his chest, unsure of what to think. For the first time in a long while, Conan felt truly afraid—not of the criminals he pursued, but of the possibility that his greatest secret was no longer safe.
