Hyunjin's POV:Sitting in Minho's room, my hand tightly gripping his, I felt the weight of every passing second press down on my chest. The room was silent, save for the soft beeping of the machines monitoring Minho's fragile condition. I hadn't slept all day, my eyes refusing to close even for a moment. Every time I blinked, I saw his face, pale and drenched in sweat, and it broke something inside me.
I dipped the cloth into the cool water beside the bed, wringing it out before gently wiping away the beads of sweat on his forehead. My tears blurred my vision, but I didn't bother wiping them away. They fell freely, one after another, as I tried to stay composed.
The doctor sat on the couch, his eyes never straying far from Minho. He had been checking on him constantly, but the tension in his shoulders told me all I needed to know—it wasn't looking good. Desperation clawed at me, and I couldn't hold back any longer. "How long do we have to get him the antidote?" I asked, my voice cracking under the pressure of the situation.
He looked at me, his expression grim. "Based on his current condition, not much longer. He needs the antidote today. Any further delay and we risk permanent damage... or worse."
My heart sank at his words, fear and anger intertwining in a tight knot in my chest. I couldn't let this happen. Minho couldn't die, not like this. I grabbed my phone, hands shaking, and dialed Felix. The line rang, but it felt like an eternity. "What's taking you so long?" I whispered fiercely to myself, pacing the room. My mind was a whirlwind of fear and frustration.
Just as I was about to lose hope, the door swung open. Felix and Jisung stepped in, their faces a mix of exhaustion and determination. I rushed towards them, my voice trembling as I demanded, "Tell me you found him."
Felix looked at me, his expression intense but calm. "We found something better," he said, raising his hand. My eyes locked onto the small vial of liquid he held. It was the antidote—the answer to our prayers.
I stared at the vial, hope surging through me for the briefest of moments, but then doubt crashed in like a tidal wave. What if this wasn't the answer? What if it wasn't enough? Or worse, what if it did more harm than good? My thoughts spiraled, and suddenly, I wasn't sure if I could trust this tiny bottle with Minho's life.
"What... what is this?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. I glanced at the doctor, then back at Felix. "Are you sure this will work? What if... what if it kills him instead? I can't risk it, Felix, I can't."
Felix's eyes softened as he stepped closer. "Hyunjin, I know this is terrifying, but we've run every possible test, every simulation. This is our best shot. I wouldn't have brought it to you if I wasn't confident."
The doctor stepped forward, examining the vial closely. "Felix is right, Hyunjin. We don't have any other options. Minho's body is shutting down. If we don't act now, there may not be a chance to save him later."
I felt trapped, torn between fear and hope. My heart ached at the thought of losing him, but the uncertainty gnawed at my resolve. "But... what if it doesn't work? What if he..." I couldn't finish the sentence.
Jisung, who had been silent until now, stepped forward and placed a hand on my shoulder. "Hyunjin, you know Minho better than anyone. He's strong, and he's a fighter. We need to give him this chance."
I looked at Minho's still form on the bed, his breathing shallow, his skin pale. The man who had always been invincible, who had always protected me, now lay powerless. I took a deep breath, trying to steady my trembling hands.
Finally, I nodded, turning to the doctor. "Okay... let's do this."
The doctor quickly prepped a syringe, carefully drawing the liquid from the vial. Felix watched intently, every movement calculated, while Jisung stood by my side, offering silent support.
