(The cure)

I looked at him, waiting in anticipation for his answer.

"A cure for what?"

He was silent for a moment, trying to swallow, but I don't think there was anything left to swallow; he was completely dry. In a tired voice, he said while looking at me:

"There is a cure for vampires."

I responded eagerly:

"A cure? What is this cure? What exactly do you mean, Gerard?"

Suddenly, the tired Gerard turned into a scientist and began to explain:

"There is a cure that I extracted from the Fahala herb. I discovered a substance inside the Fahala seed that can completely eliminate the Bloodthirst substance in our bodies."

I was silent for a moment, trying to process what Gerard had just said. Then I asked:

"Are you saying we can become human again?"

He smiled sarcastically before saying:

"I will never be human again. I was created to be a vampire."

I replied with sarcasm:

"Then why were you looking for a cure?"

He answered:

"Simply for Maya, for Maya alone, and so that we could completely get rid of humans. With that cure, Maya would have a chance to become human again. She would be given time to grow up... but unfortunately, I didn't have time to give it to her."

I never imagined that the selfish bastard Gerard would care about anyone but himself.

With interest, I asked:

"Have you tried the cure?... Have you brought any vampires back to humanity?"

He said:

"Actually, no! But I tried the cure on a vampire corpse, and I was surprised. The substance in the Fahala completely eliminated the Bloodthirst without causing any harm."

I asked excitedly:

"So you don't know if it will work?"

He said:

"Look at yourself. You're so excited for the cure, huh? I know you want to go back to being human so badly and catch up with your human girl. Actually, it doesn't suit you to be a vampire. You've always been human, even though you're a vampire. You even took so long to turn that you probably didn't want to turn in the first place."

I responded with a cold smile:

"You don't know anything, Gerard. I love being a vampire so much. I've killed so many people in the past few days; I'm even more of a savage than you... In fact, I don't want to go back to being human. I don't think I can, after all the lives I've taken..."

He looked at me seriously and said:

"You have to take the cure, Jared. You deserve it. The world is now under human control. You won't be able to last long. Don't think about immortality-it's a lie. You'll turn into a terrifying creature as the years pass. I'm a scientist, and I know these things. I also know very well that you hate the idea of turning into a monster."

Gerard was right. I was terrified of the future, especially after seeing the soldiers that Jayden brought-the vampires-grow stronger, they became more brutal, more hideous and pale as the years passed.

I said:

"How strange you are, Gerard. But your cure may not be effective-it may even be fatal. You haven't tested it on a living body. The Fahala herb is so dangerous. You know very well what it does to us."
