"Ok so we need snacks, drinks, towels, a garbage bin, a storage cart, whiteboard, carpet, vacuum, room decor, extended charger, LED lights, and accordin' to my dad, our budget is 'bout $600 so we can either save the rest of the money or spend it on other necessities," Isabella said, glancing down at the list she had made in her notes app.
It was the day before classes started, and Isabella and Milani had decided to head to the Grand Plaza seven minutes from campus to do some shopping for the dorm.
Rows of stores lined the sidewalks—from supermarkets to hardware, from arts & crafts to a liquor & smoke shop, and of course the occasional fast food restaurant—it all seemed lively with people of all ages exiting and entering stores.
"Ight let's go to Family Dollar first," Milani responded, adjusting her navy blue hoodie, gray joggers, and sandals as she shut the driver's side door with a satisfying clink, locking the car.
The two girls quickly made their way to the beige and green storefront, Isabella grabbing a cart as she entered.
"Okay so fa decor, I'm thinkin' we should get some candles just to make the dorm smell good 'n sh*t and maybe some fake plants n a few portraits. Whatchu think?" Milani proposed as she and Isabella walked past the cashiers and into the first aisle.
"Mhm, sounds good," Isabella nodded, before strolling the cart into different isles, eventually finding the right one. "Okayyy..." Isabella's eyes began eying all the scents before picking up 'Hawaiian Fruit Kiss' and smelling it before a satisfactory smile grew on her face—carefully, she grabbed a few more of the same scent, and putting it in the cart.
Milani, still looking, decided on 'Passion Fruit Punch'—picking it up and inhaling its tropical aroma. "Ouuuuuu, this smell good as f*ck. Isa come 'n smell this." Milani pointed the candle towards Isabella's nose, which Isabella instinctively smelled, a satisfied expression on her face afterward. "Oh yuhh, put that in da cart."
Milani placed the candle in the cart, making sure to grab a few more before they moved on to the next item on their list.
The rest of the shopping trip went pretty much the same way—one of them would pick something from the list or just think of something that would be useful, they'd find it, evaluate whether it was worth buying, and either tossed it in the cart or put it back. They kept at it until they went to every store and everything on the list was checked off.
About four hours later, the duo emerged from the plaza, Isabella rolling the last of the bags in a cart as Milani unlocked the car. Without a word, they started stuffing the bags into the trunk, carefully piling them on top of the bags from earlier stores.
