𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐅𝐎𝐔𝐑: 𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐀𝐊 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐃𝐄𝐕𝐈𝐋
season one: episode two
It was mere moments after Clarke's revelation that rational thinking returned to them all, and they ran like hell.
Alec's feet crashed against the forest floor as he leapt over branches and weaved around trees. He dared not look back on the chance that he might see whoever had speared Jasper. A sharp pain took root in his side, one that would have made him stop to wait for it to subside if there was no sense of urgency. But stopping surely meant death, and he would not let that happen.
Monty's foot snagged on a tree root, sending him crashing face-first into the dirt in front of Alec. He almost tumbled right on top of the poor boy, only managing to avoid him by a few inches. He crouched down and grabbed Monty's arm while Octavia grabbed the other.
"Monty, get up," she panted, trying to haul him to his feet.
Alec's breath came in heaves, strangled noises escaping his lips. "Monty, get your ass up."
His eyes drifted to the side, and he froze in his attempt to assist Monty. Right in front of the boy's face was a mostly intact skeleton with vegetation growing within the ribcage. Scattered around it were numerous other bones from the body, most notably a skull settled on the dirt. Finn and Octavia got Monty back to his feet, leaving Alec kneeling on the ground, staring wide-eyed at the bones.
"Who are they?" Finn questioned as his hands circled Alec's arm, pulling him upright. Perhaps his friend hadn't realized it, but he kept a firm grip on Alec's bicep even after he was standing which under different circumstances would have made Alec's brain malfunction. But now, it served to keep his thoughts from running too wild.
Clarke bent down to pick up the deformed skull before she corrected, "What are they?"
"We are so screwed," Octavia said in response.
Alec found himself agreeing with her words.
A distant, lengthy scream tore through the air, all their heads snapping around to where the sound came from. "Jasper. He's alive," Clarke deduced, then took off where they had just run from.
Finn's hand released Alec as he chased after her, forcing Alec, Monty, and Octavia to follow. They had not made it far from the river when they stumbled upon the skeleton, so they were back where they started rather quickly, much to Alec's dismay.
"Stay in the trees." Finn tugged Clarke back when they reached the edge of the forest. Alec's eyes zeroed in on the spot that Jasper was last in, and upon seeing that he was not there anymore, his heart rate rapidly increased. If it went any faster, he was sure he would have a heart attack. "He was right there," Finn gasped.
