MYRA'S POV
Flashback of the 12 year old myra:-
Covering my eyes with my bangs, I walked inside the house while keeping my head down. The moment I stepped in the familiar yet poison-like smell hit my nostrils causing my nose to scrunch.
I looked outside the window, there was still time for it to get dark then why- My heart fell to the pit of my stomach as last night's sickening scenes played in my mind like a disturbing documentary.
It was scarier than any horror movie I ever watched. Bone-chilling.
Placing my bag on the couch, I took slow steps towards the kitchen. Careful not to make any sound for I didn't want to alert anyone that I was back.
My withered throat begged for a drop of water ever since my water bottle broke during the fight in the school.
I was dying of thirst during my classes but couldn't dare to ask for help from anyone; even Stella was absent today.
Dragging the short stool towards the tap, I climbed on it to reach the kitchen counter properly.
I gulped down two glasses of water in less than a minute. A sigh of relief escaped my mouth as my thirst was finally quenched.
That's when my eyes fell on the half filled glass of alcohol, this time it wasn't even hidden, so this explains the foul smell.
I crunched my nose, this smell had always disgusted me to the point that I wanted to puke.
Getting down from the stool, I continued glare at that glass. Gradually hot liquid collected at the corner of my eyes.
With my finger pointed at the glass, I scolded it. "You should disappear.." My tone sounded more defeated towards the end as I pleaded, "Please.."
It didn't vanish away, instead it felt like the glass was laughing at me, mocking me like its place was greater than me in my own father's life. Maybe I would never be able to compete with it.
For a second I wanted to smash the glass at the wall and watch it shatter but I didn't want to be a prey to my father's outrage. That would be terrifying.
"Myra! Are you back?" came my mother's voice from the backyard, loud enough to reach me. Judging by her tone, she seemed calmer than last night.
"Yes!" I answered back and quickly ran to my room to freshen up.
After I was done washing up my bruises and eyes, I quickly wore a pyjama to hide it well.
That's when something popped in my mind, something that had me awake the whole night yesterday other than the loud shouts.
Wearing my crocs, I rushed towards the backyard where my mother was watering the plants with a deep scowl on her face.
I wish she would smile more, it felt nice whenever she did, though it was rare.
"Do you want food?" She asked, without turning around to look at me. I shook my head only to realise that she couldn't see me. "No."
My lips formed a thin line as I looked up at the sky.
The clouds and me were matching today, they also looked gloomy. A faint sigh escaped my mouth as I walked towards my mother.
I twisted the hem of my t-shirt between my fingers anxiously. The silence between me and my mother was definitely doing something bad to my chest, I didn't know how to describe it.
