"You're doing amazing Hisa! Look at how well you can read now!" A male, around the age of fifteen said to a bright eyed six year old as they sat in her room
It wasn't the most lavish of rooms, especially in comparison to the other three children of the family, but nonetheless it was a room
"It's only because you taught me so much Lu ten" Hisane grinned as she fumbled with the pages of her book "why can't..why can I attend the royal fire academy for girls?" The child asked as Lu ten's expression softened
"I'll try and talk to dad and grandma about it" he ruffled the top of her head as hisane gave him a happy nod "Kay!"
"Ah, we can't say Kay remember, we have to be polite and respectful, we say thank you" Lu ten reminded her
"Polite and respectful?" Hisane tilted her head to the side as her older brother brought a finger to his chin "like the spirit in this book! Its polite, well mannered and always helping others, that's how we should strive to live"
"Okay" Hisane nodded "in that case, I want to be like you Lu ten"
"Eh??" Her brother blinked
"Do you think that when I'm older, I can be just like you?" She smiled as she jumped off of the edge of the bed and began to fire bend "then I'll be kind! And strong!"
Lu ten paused for a moment before he wrapped his younger sister in a tight embrace "sure!" He yelled "Sure! That's perfectly fine! You're already amazing just as you are hisa!" He smiled as the young girl began to laugh
"Now then, why don't we make our way to the compound and you can show me that cool trick with your swords you said you'd mastered?" Lu ten proposed as hisane nodded her head vigorously
"You're gonna be so amazed Lu ten!" She grinned "do you think we could get dad so I could show him? Maybe even grandfather"
"Sure, we can try" Lu ten said with a sad smile "what about zuko azula and auntie ursa?"
"Yeah that's alright, as long as uncle ozai isn't there, he's weird, and azulas mean when he's near" Hisane cringed earning a laugh from her brother as he held onto her hand

Hisanes eyes shot open and scanned her surroundings, "that was just a memory" the fifteen year old hummed as she avoided the giant bolder that was thrown at her as she led her army to a costal large earth kingdom city fighting against the earth kingdom troops, switching her sword for her three sectioned staff as she and her troops continued to progress
"Break off into three sectors!" She yelled "and avoid harming citizens."
"Yes Major general!" The men yelled as they continued to burn the surrounding area
But what was she fighting for? What was she doing all of this for? She wasn't sure
Hisane was quick to avoid a large wave of broken earth that was sent her way , jumping over a boulder and using her staff to propel herself in the air as she took out the higher posts whilst her soldiers continued their assault
"Mum get back!" A boy, around her age yelled as he ran towards Hisane with a sword in hand
"Chen wait!" An older woman yelled as Hisane turned around, a fire nation soldier kicking the boy to the ground and stomping on his stomach
"Ma'am!" He saluted as he continued to charge, Hisanes gaze meeting the boys
"You're all monsters" he coughed "you burn everything you touch, ruin lives, destroy families. How do you sleep at night?" He coughed as he mother ran to his side
"Chen!" She exclaimed as she held her son, bowing down to the point she was sniffing the burnt grass
"I am so, so sorry, please don't kill my son, I'm sorry, he's sorry, w—"
"She's afraid of me.." Hisane realised as she grabbed a charging soldier, brought his hand behind his back and threw him off the hill they were on , causing the woman to shriek, tears streaming down her face as Hisanes eyes widened
What..am I doing?!
As she began to shed the idealised version of her nations actions and by extension her own, she felt a pit in her stomach, a giant rocky disk sending her into the waters, Hisane making her way out and blocking a few soldiers attacks before throwing one over the river and to the other side, taking the sword from another soldiers hand and kicking him over, staring at her reflection in in the sword before bringing it to the half doo knot she had on her head, cutting it off, jumping into the river and letting got of her bun and hair piece
"Huh!" She gasped as she staggered out of the shore in an unknown land, carfully taking out a folded peice of paper and using fire-bending to dry it
