==========================================================
The days leading up to the Ball were hectic, for not only Narcissa but apparently Lucius and me as well. While Lucius was given the task of sending invitations and securing the more important items for display, I was given errands as well as babysitting.
I really didn't mind the babysitting part, but errands on top of it was kinda difficult. Because evidently, shopping with two almost 2-year-olds, was a long endeavor.
But as my luck would have it, one of these trips brought me confirmation of the world I'm in and allies.
-22nd December, Diagon Alley-
With the list of things to buy in one hand, Hadrian in my arms and Draco toddling with a tight grip on my dress skirts, I was making my way to the Jewelers. Apparently, we needed to give return gifts as a sign of good faith as it was the first ball hosted by me.
It took a few minutes and we were done with our ordering of little customized set of bracelets for the Ladies and complementary cufflinks for their Lords. Courtesy of Narcissa's detailed description on how and what to order, accompanied by the same lecture summarized in writing. That woman is thorough...
Before heading back home, I decided to give the boys a treat and headed to the Ice cream Parlor at Diagon. We chose a quiet booth for ourselves by an open view window, accompanied with two baby seats on either side of me and ordered. Chocolate Ice cream for me, French Vanilla for Hade and Cookies & Cream for Draco. Both of them chose something that looked fancy on the menu. A-Dorable!
I was feeding them in turns when I felt a little nudge at the back of my chair. I turned to look at the most adorable little thing (well, a boy, but you get what I mean). He had short ginger hair, wavy on the ends, with vibrant blue eyes too big on his face. One tiny hand was holding my skirt tightly and the other's thumb was in his mouth. He was looking up at me with teary eyes, and I swear to God my heart broke.
"Oh Darling... are you lost? Are you okay?" I turned in my seat to pick him up, while looking at my surroundings to see if I can spot a worried parent trying to look for this baby. I also checked him for any injuries as an indication of the reason he could be crying. Finding none, I try to distract him from crying while still keeping an eye out for his parents.
Sitting on my lap, he curiously peers at the boys, who by now have taken matters into their own hands. Literally. They are trying to eat their Ice creams by hand. Key word being, 'trying'.
Seeing their messy states must have put the child at ease, because he giggles at Draco, who has somehow gotten Ice cream on his eyebrows.
Securing the boy firmly in my lap so he doesn't fall, I huff a laugh and carefully clean both of them up. Seeing as the Child is calm now, I decide to feed him my ice cream too. Seems like I now have three kids to babysit... yay me! *Cue the sarcasm*
I am now feeding all three of them in turn, when I see a frantic woman enter the shop and look around, until her eyes land on our table. That must be the mother then. Seeing the boy in my lap, safe and happy , must have put her at ease, because she sighs a breath of relief and moves towards us.
"Oh, my baby! I am so sorry miss; he must have troubled you and thank you so much for finding him!!" she says that all in rapid-fire, while taking the boy from me who fusses a little at getting away from eating his ice cream.
I give a sweet smile at the boy now in his mother's arms and turn to the women, "He found me actually. And it's quite alright, he was no fuss at all. He was more fascinated with the boys and ice cream than anything."
She relaxes her shoulders with the kid finally in her arms, and then notices the two kids with me and the Ice cream finished in front of me. The same ice cream that is clearly smeared all over the boy's mouth.
"Thank you for distracting him. And I'll pay for his ice cream. Really sorry for the trouble. I just- I don't know how he got away, one minute he was there and the next he was gone. But thank you."
Seeing as she was tensing again, I reassured her, "No need to do that ma'am. It's alright. These things happen. Please sit down and catch your breath." She seemed to be hesitant so I insisted, "It will give me some adult company too, please."
She finally relents and sits opposite of me with the kid in her lap.
"My name is Isis. This is my son Hade and My friend's son Draco." I point to each in turn.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Molly Weasley and this is my son, Ronald." Hearing his name from his mom, the said kid looks sharply up at her.
Ooooooooo...I met Molly Weasley. Now what to do????
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Turns out, I needn't worry. She was perfectly nice and polite, though she grew a lot more nervous after learning my full name. But soon she calmed down and we got to talking. Turns out, the family is a lot same as in the movies, but a bit toned down I'd say. There are a few distinct differences though.
The eldest of her children is William 'Bill' Weasley, who just graduated last year and is doing his internship at Gringotts as a curse breaker, then Charlie Weasley who will graduate next year and wants be a Dragon Handler. The next kid still in Hogwarts is Percy Weasley, who is in his 3rd year and top of his year in almost all subjects.
Ron (as she told me to call by his nickname) is the youngest. But I'm sure not for long... *heh*
Her husband, Arthur Weasley works at the Ministry of Magic in the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts office.
We catch up some more, and she gives me tips on how to care for a child, seeing as she has more experience than me. Overall, she was a sweetheart. So much so, that I decided to invite her to my Yule ball. Extending an invitation and promising a formal one soon, I pay the bill and we part ways.
When I return to Malfoy manor and let the kids roam free in Draco's room, I make my way to where Narcissa is lounging in her sunroom. A beautiful dome-shaped glass sitting area, with an open view to the gardens outside. It is one of the many favorite rooms of Narcissa.
We sit and talk until well into the evening and if she admonishes me for inviting someone without asking prior, well... that is no one's business.
