"She's a little cuckoo, don't sweat it."

"You know, I'm starting to get the feeling Dad's avoiding us", Five concluded as Diego and Maeve arrived. Lila and him were both watching a black car take off, so she assumed it was Reginald leaving them once again.

Lila sighed. "Hate to be the boring one, guys, but it's time we get the hell out of here." She was right, especially since Diego and the girl looked quite... harried. She was limping, her foot was making itself noticeable after the adrenaline rush slowly wore off. The bloody smears on their clothes and faces drew in confused and concerned looks. One thing was certain, they were absolutely not invisible anymore.

"When you say 'we', who exactly are you referring to?" Five leaned forward skeptically.
Oh, now shit was going down. Maeve put her hands into the pockets of her dress — yes, it had pockets — and shifted her feet to put little weight on the broken one. They were probably going to spend a few minutes arguing here, might as well get a tad more comfortable.

Contrary to the girl, Lila hadn't noticed her previous slip up. Of course not, she was by far not as thorough as Maeve. "Not a lot of ambiguity in that sentence."

"Listen, I don't know who you are or where you came from", Five walked a step towards her, "but whatever it is, I'd advise you return posthaste."
Maeve stayed still, trying to draw as little attention to her as possible. Diego muttered, "She's right, Five. We gotta get outta here."
And they had to, really. Everyone exiting the Gala was eyeing the interesting team.

The woman continued to play her part. "I just saved your life, you kinder-shit. If I hadn't stepped in, all that would be left of you is a blazer and some bloody socks."

Five was too focused on the other woman to notice. She hoped that, at least. "And that's the problem. You're too good." He tilted his head to Diego and Maeve, encouraging them to scrutinize Lila, too. "You ask too many questions. You know too much. And you fight like you know what you're doing."
So did Maeve, but she was clearly smart enough to make it seem like she was just about managing the fight.

"He's got a point", Diego stated quietly.

Five looked at the girl next to him with expecting eyes, like she had to join.
"... Now that you say it..." She mumbled and avoided Lila's face. Don't drag me into this, goddamn.

A nervous chuckle. "So I know how to handle myself, and that makes me the bad guy?" She halted as if she was debating on whether to continue. "And why is all that suspicion not also targeted at Maeve, huh? She handled herself just as well upstairs. And she's only a kid. Don't you think her fighting skills are much more suspicious than mine?"
'Oh, you bitch', Maeve thought.
Before she could defend herself, Five responded. Which was good, because 1., it meant that he probably trusted her at least moderately, and 2., she had no idea what she would've said.
