It was quiet. Dead quiet in the dark cave that Melody was trapped in with her captor. He had yet to look at her, which was perfectly fine. She'd rather not have him staring at her while she sits and does nothing during her imprisonment, and however awkward the silence may be, she preferred he not speak to her, either.
Again, though, luck wasn't on her side.
"Sing something."
Eyes going wide, Melody gazed at his back in disbelief. "What?"
"As I recall, you had a captivating voice you used during your last time with us. So, sing and entertain me."
Ready to reject his request, Melody stopped before the words came out. However much she wanted to not satisfy the warlord, she knew anger would arise if her refusal was voiced. Following that anger would be pain, and she didn't have much energy to deal with that.
Taking a deep breath, turning so she wouldn't face him, lyrics began to flood out of her mouth.
Once a lass met a lad
"You're a gentle one", said she
In my heart I'd be glad
If you loved for me
You say your love is true
And I hope that it will be
I'd be sure if I knew
That you loved me for me
The more she sang, the easier she felt. Pictures painted inside her mind of her and Optimus, memories following the lyrics like a flashback in a movie. She got lost in her singing, temporarily forgetting that she was being heard by a murderous Deceptimer, who was indulging himself in the music.
It soothed him, her voice. Like last time, it made him calm and entertained, with a hint of jealousy that his rival had something like this and he didn't. Optimus was so lucky to possess this little singsong girl, who was obviously to be much more than meets the eye.
Just what made her so special? What made her worthy for a piece of the Allspark to fall into her hands? Had she never come into the Mer world, the idea of a human being of any importance would've been laughable. Yet here she was, this being called Melody, who shook the world of the Mers on both sides.
He remembered when he first met her perfectly. How she had stared at him with fear on her pretty face, as any small thing would in his presence. Yet even when afraid, she tried to be courageous, and it was honestly admirable. This plus her voice and beauty made him wonder what it would be like if he kept her. A victory trophy, a spoil of war, a pet, all for himself.
The more Megatron thought about it, the more pleasing the idea sounded. What really sugar coated it was the fact that she was Optimus Prime's love, and ripping her away from him forever would be almost as good as killing him.
He made a decision.
Melody finished her song, coming back into the reality around her. The image of her and Optimus was replaced with the dark cave walls, and the warmth of his arms became cold claws around her...
Wait a minute...
Head snapping to her middle, she became horrified upon seeing the hand curled around her, not fully holding her, but keeping her caged. It was then she took notice of just how close Megatron was. Floating in the water mere inches from the ledge, his body no more than eight feet away.
It took all her willpower not to yelp in sudden fright.
Silence, minus her low gasping, filled the cavern. Then he spoke.
"You're mine."
Melody's heart stopped, her blood running cold.
"I... what?" His fingers brushed her back, closing in around her more. The look in his blood red eyes terrified her, it was something she hadn't seen before.
"From this moment forward, you are mine. Optimus will never have you back."
No. He wasn't serious. He couldn't be serious!
"A-are you crazy?! I..."
Ice cold lips forced themselves onto her own, halting her abruptly. A sharp gasp left her lungs, eyes so wide like in a horror movie, which was exactly what Melody felt like she was in. The energy left in her seemed to be sucked out, killed by this poisonous kiss. It got harder, and she felt her breath running out quickly. She was suffocating due to lack of air and tears, running in rivers down near-white cheeks.
Finally, he released her, but she was too petrified to breathe. He tucked a finger under her chin, meeting her watery gaze.
"I will marvel in his despair, his pain and fear, when he sees you belong to me, my little Melody."
Tapping her head, he turned away, swimming off to give her temporary space.
Melody didn't feel the air enter her lungs, nor did she acknowledge her knees fall to the ground and collapse onto her side. Her face was painted like a fear-filled China doll, the tears giving the skin a glossy look. No noise could come from her lips, the chill from Megatron lingering.
In that moment, all hope left her. Her heart felt like stone, and her mind was filled with pure darkness that swallowed all light. What could possibly save her now?
