"She's been like that since the clock hit ten thirty." I sighed with frustration in my voice as it was bugging me that I couldn't do anything to help my daughter. Even Bay stayed away from Bella as she knew better than me that Bellamy needed time alone.
"She doesn't take separation well when it comes to Jordan. Even when she and her sister spend a day with me, Bellamy needs a few hours to adjust before she's okay." Jo explained to me as I nodded my head in understanding. It made me feel better that Bellamy wasn't just like this with me but with Jo too. I felt a little less alone when it came down to it.
"Has she always been like that?" I curiously asked as we both gazed at Bella.
Jo solely nodded her head. "Since birth." She answered.
The air in the house was for some reason thickening as the seconds turned into minutes and the minutes turned into hours—it was no longer comfortable. The house became so still and cold that you could hear a pin drop. It was like an impending doom was about to drop on us and I think we all felt that because after a while, Bay stopped playing and just sat on the couch and cuddled with her GG while Bellamy stopped rocking as she stared ahead. I continued to pace as I looked between my phone and the front door, impatiently waiting for it to ring or for the front door to open up to my love, though only one of the two happened.
As soon as I began to put my phone away in my pocket......it rang. My heart dropped to my stomach as I saw an unknown number pop up on my phone.
Ring-
I answered immediately.
"Ciao [Hello]?" I hesitantly answered with a slight panic to my voice.
"Ciao, sono Giovanni [Hi, is this Giovanni]?" A lady on the other side of the phone asked.
"Sì? Chi è? [Yes? Who is this]?" I asked cautiously as my body froze on the spot, knowing deep down that something was not right.
"Sono il dottor Baresi del Kindred General Hospital. Ti chiamo a nome di tua moglie, Jordan Jenson. Odio fare questa chiamata, soprattutto la vigilia di Natale, ma lei ha avuto un incidente d'auto [I'm Dr. Baresi from Kindred General Hospital. I'm calling you on behalf of your wife, Jordan Jenson. I hate to make this call especially on Christmas Eve but she's been in a car accident]." The woman spoke professionally with a hint of sympathy in it. A shudder instantly ran down my back as the grip I had on my phone tightened against my ear. It was like a veil of gloom rained over me and with every breath I took in, it became more ragged.
"W-What do you m-mean? S-Sta bene [I-Is she o-okay]?" I finally stuttered out. Jo looked at me with nothing but concern as soon as I said that. You could tell she was worried for her own daughter's well being not knowing or hearing what's going on herself.
"È stabile. Per fortuna, ha ferite curabili, ma dovremo tenerla durante la notte per l'osservazione [She's stable. Thankfully, she has healable injuries but we will need to keep her overnight for observation]." The doctor stated.
"Va bene, s-sto andando per la mia strada ora [Okay good, I-I'm on my way now]." I abruptly announced.
"Benissimo. Quando arriverai qui, ti diremo di più sulle sue condizioni [Great. When you get here we'll tell you more about her condition]." She added with a hint of sadness which only confused me more. Is she okay or is she not okay?
"Grazie, Dott. Baresi [Thank you, Dr. Baresi]." I concluded.
"Non c'è problema [No problem]." She spoke before she abruptly ended the phone call. I looked at my phone in disbelief before I placed it in my pocket and sat down on the couch with my head in my hands, joining Jo and Bay. As painful as this is for me I have to- no I need to push my feelings aside. This isn't about me right now. A heavy weight fell on my shoulders on how I'm supposed to tell not only Jordan's mother that her baby was in a car accident but our daughters that their mother has been hurt.
