Finally, it was the next morning. The last day was a torture for Ajax. Serena had come out of the room she had slept in a few hours later, but it was obvious she was not able to sleep that much. Dark bags had appeared under her beautiful eyes and her face looked so tired.
She had stood most of the day outside the cottage or behind the window, waiting for James to return home and it was obvious how much she was worried and stressed. She had barely talked with them and had kept her distance from them, especially from Ajax and Grayson.
But she had not seen anything out there. The only change in the scenery was the storm that slowly calmed down and finally stopped altogether.
She had not had any lunch and had only played with her food for dinner. And that had only made her look even more fragile and thin in Ajax's eyes.
Seeing her like that was only managing to make Ajax more sure about the decision he had made.
But he knew he would for sure have one hell of a fight with her.
And the fight did happen the next morning.
The five men were talking quietly to each other and were preparing breakfast. Grayson was watching Ajax who was staring intently at the door of her room where Serena had stayed for the night. They had cleaned the room last night and she was able to finally sleep in her own bed.
"So it seems you are going to ask her to come back to the pack." stated Grayson, popping a nut in his mouth.
Ajax only nodded.
"So that means you are going to mark her?" he asked and everyone stopped what they were doing to look at Ajax, all of them looked hopeful.
Ajax glanced at Grayson and stared at him with his emotionless eyes. "Do you have a fucking problem with that?" he questioned coldly, his tone low and threatening.
Grayson shrugged, unaffected by his alpha's coldness which he had become immune to.
"No, She is your mate." he replied. "I have a mate. I know how you should feel. Plus, she has saved my life and has managed to make all of you fuckers to fell for her hard."
Ajax clenched his fists and took a threatening step toward Grayson. "Grayson, I swear to moon goddess I will kill you if you say more bullshit about her." he seethed. "Hurt her again and ..."
The rest of his sentence was cut off when he heard the door of her bedroom open. His head whipped toward the room and he saw her walking out. He frowned when he saw how she looked.
She was wearing a pair of leggings and knee-length leather boots. She was wearing a white tonic that was stopping a bit above her knees with a dark green knitted shirt on top of it.
Her hair was pulled back into a tight ponytail and she had a thick cloak wrapped around her neck. A backpack was in her hand.
Her face looked determined and her eyes were set hard.
"Good morning." she mumbled to the five stunned men as she put the bag on a couch and went to the mantlepiece where she had put her blade there. She picked it up, put it in its sheath, and shoved it in her belt.
She then turned and rushed to the kitchen. Grabbing a loaf of bread, she wrapped a cloth around it before walking back to her bag, all the while aware of the eyes of the five men on her.
"What are you doing?" asked Ajax. His voice came out a bit harsher than what he intended.
"To search for my friend." answered Serena before picking up her bag and slinging it over her shoulder.
