"A fire benders near!!" Sokka screeched as he jumped off of his leaf that was keeping him afloat in the water pointing to the fire nation clothes at the edge of the bay
"Huh??" Katara and Aang who were practicing waterbending halted as the raised their arms in defence
"Nah, it's just me" Hisane hummed as she wiped her forehead, making her way out of the forest with a less bulky set of clothes
"Oh, okay" Aang shrugged
"Don't scare us like that Sokka!" Katara frowned as she splashed her brother with waterbending
"Sorry, I'm still getting used to the whole..fire nation...person, in the group thing" Sokka said with a lopsided grin as Hisane raised an eyebrow
"Right" she awkwardly nodded before making her way towards the other side of the river only for Sokka to swim up to her
"So, what's the fire nation like?" The nonbender asked as Hisane placed a finger on her chin "depends, honestly. There's nothing wrong with the general public, they're just normal people" she nodded
"I find that hard to believe" Sokka scoffed
"They are!" Hisane insisted "barely anyone knows about the true horrors of the war, I found out when I was around fourteen, but usually, people will go their whole lives thinking the fire nation is bringing peace to the other nations, the fire lord makes sure it stays that way, or else there would be a peasant uprising"
"You seem knowledgeable about that" Sokka raised an eyebrow as Hisanes eyes widened "yeah, I guess you could say so" she mumbled as the conversation died
"What about your family?" Sokka smiled "don't you miss them?"
"My family?" Hisane repeated "there is one person I really miss" she hummed "but I don't really care about anyone else" she shrugged, turning to see Sokka shocked face
"Oh, apologies. Family is very important to the water tribe isn't it?" She smiled "but that's not really the same for me"
"Do the fire nation not care about family?"
"No most do, it's just my family" she snickered "everyone's so deceitful and sneaky..it's tiring" she huffed, Sokka staying quiet
Apart from her inventions, he'd been struggling to really see her as anything other than a fire bender, but the more the two of them talked, it became more prevalent that she was just the same as them
"I'm guessing you don't like the fire nation that much" Hisane smiled "understandable, I wouldn't if i was from one of the other nations, especially if I was Aang.." she said with guilty eyes as she stared at the airbender
"Yeah, there's not much to talk about with them when they're raiding your village" Sokka said in a sarcastic manner earning a small laugh from Hisane which made his eyes light up
