Alastor's POV
I left the group to cook dinner tonight. I have zero clue to where the others are, besides Adam who's more than likely grieving over his loss in his room. Charlie is always with Vaggie, but where? Husk isn't at his usual spot in the bar, like I would like him to be, but I think he's doing something with Angel. I'll leave those two alone. They're probably out on another date.
Bel hasn't explained what she was going on about. I doubt it's true anyways. Pfft. A sinner stronger than Lucifer. What a load of nonsense.
I start preparing the jambalaya, humming a jazz tune to myself. Lucifer continues to talk to the other sins, discussing more about the Roo situation. Andro comes running in and looks exhausted. I pick him up and hold him on my hip.
"Aren't you supposed to be with Levi?" I ask him. Andro shakes his head, his little red ears flickering.
"He keeps touching my ears and it's overwhelming." I know that feeling.
"I'm sorry." I kiss his forehead. I continue to make dinner with my son in one of my arms. He watches me intently. I let him do a few things, like stir the pot and have a little taste test. I hold up a spoon to his mouth with a bit of jambalaya on it. He blows on it, almost too hard, and then takes a bite. "Is it good?" He nods with a big smile as he swallows. "Good. Will you set the table?"
"Yeah!" I hand him a bunch of bowls. How many people do we have here? Seven sins, Andro and I, Charlie and Vaggie, Adam and Niffty. That's 13 people. I hope I've made enough. Andro comes running back in, waiting for another task for me to give. Practically jumping off the walls for another thing to do. I give him napkins and spoons to put beside every bowl. I bring out the pot of jambalaya and set it in the middle of the table.
"Papa! What about Mr. Adam? He doesn't leave his room."
"I'll get him a bowl, you find the others. Okay?"
"Okay!" He runs off. I fix up a bowl for the fallen angel and walk upstairs. I walk down the long hallway. I sigh before stopping at his door. I give a soft knock and wait for an answer.
"What!" Adam's voice yells through the door. I take a deep breath.
"I've brought dinner, since I know you won't come down. May I come in?" There's a moment of silence, then a bunch of shuffling and movement can be heard.
"Sure. Sure. Whatever." I open the door and walk in, closing it behind me. Adam lays in his bed, a lump under his pillow. It's probably the piece of Lute's head. I don't mention it though. I hand him the bowl and he takes it quickly. "Now go away." I don't listen to him and sit down next to him. Just do what you and Lucifer were talking about Alastor. I take another deep breath.
"Adam, I know what you're going through," I say softly, without my radio voice.
"I don't know what the fuck you're talking about."
"You've lost someone special to you. So have I. It's tough. But your lieutenant wouldn't want you to be trapped in your room looking at a piece of her face. I know you're grieving and you need your time."
"I miss her a lot..." he whispers. "She's gone forever..."
"She's not gone forever. She's still here. Not physically, but mentally." Adam doesn't answer me, but puts his dinner on the nightstand. I mentally sigh. I would tell him Lute's in a better place, if we were alive. But where do souls go once they die again? Lost in a void? Forgotten? Who knows. "I've lost someone important in my life too. It's tough, especially when they're your everything. I know dealing with your loss can be hard, and we should give you as much space as you want, but-" His wing pulling me closer to him cuts me off. He wraps his arms and wings around me, trapping me in his limbs. "Adam."
"Stay," he says, pleading. I can't really stay. As much as I want to, which isn't as much really. Lucifer will be worried for me once he finds I'm not downstairs. Anytime I'm away from him for too long, he gets worried. I feel like I'll be here for a while.
Minutes later, not sure how many, I hear Lucifer's voice calling for me in the hallway. Just come in here dear. I doubt he'll walk into Adam's room. Who would think I'd be in here? Besides Andro, who I told I was going to be here. I hear the door open and he peeks his head in. Andro might have told him. I think Adam has fallen asleep.
"Aw. You're like a teddy bear," Lucifer says, giggling quietly.
"I am no teddy bear," I whisper. "Now help me out, will you?" Lucifer walks closer and shakes his head 'no'. I narrow my eyes. "Why not?" He just smiles and quietly laughs. I give him a 'really' look and he nods, slowly backing out of the room. Great. Adam holds me tighter against him, mumbling something I couldn't make out. It sounded like gibberish. I can't use my shadow teleportation because it'll bring Adam too.
I guess I will stay here for the night.
