One chilly afternoon, Lily was studying in her dorm when she received an unexpected call from Ethan. His voice was tense, and she could sense something was wrong.
“Lily, can you meet me at the café we like? I need to talk to you about something important.”
Lily’s heart raced as she agreed, wondering what could be troubling Ethan. She quickly bundled up and headed to the café, her mind racing with possibilities.
When she arrived, Ethan was already there, his face drawn and his usual confidence replaced by worry. He stood up as Lily approached, pulling out a chair for her. 
“Hey,” Lily said softly, taking a seat. “What’s going on?”
Ethan sighed deeply, looking down at his hands before meeting her gaze. “There’s something I haven’t told you. I’m involved in a legal issue. It’s complicated, but I’m trying to deal with it.”
Lily’s heart sank. “What kind of legal issue?”
Ethan hesitated before speaking. “It’s related to some of the people I got involved with during my internship. They’re being investigated for financial misconduct, and I’m being questioned as a potential witness. I’m not in trouble, but it’s affecting everything.”
Lily’s mind raced as she tried to process the news. “Have you talked to a lawyer?”
“Yes,” Ethan replied. “I’m cooperating fully and trying to stay out of any potential issues. But it’s stressful, and it’s affecting my focus.”
Lily reached across the table, taking Ethan’s hand in hers. “We’ll get through this. I’m here for you, no matter what.”
Ethan’s eyes softened with gratitude. “Thank you. I didn’t want to keep this from you, but I didn’t know how to explain it.”
Lily nodded, determined to support him through the ordeal. “We’ll face this together. Let’s make sure we keep open communication and handle everything as a team.”
As they continued to discuss the situation, Lily felt a mix of anxiety and resolve. She knew that their relationship was strong, but the added stress of Ethan’s legal troubles was a new challenge they had to navigate.

Lily tried to remain calm. “Ethan and I are handling things. Your comments don’t help.”
Jenna’s expression shifted, her tone turning more serious. “I just wanted to make sure you’re aware of what you’re dealing with. Sometimes things aren’t what they seem.”
Before Lily could respond, Jenna walked away, leaving Lily feeling unsettled. She knew Jenna’s words were meant to provoke, but the uncertainty of the situation made it harder to dismiss.
