Chapter 36 - Newborn Battle

                                    

                                          
It was the night before the newborn army and Harley was reading through her grandmother's grimoires that Nik and Elijah gave her.
"Hey, sweetheart. What are you up to?" Nik asks as he walks in.
"Just reading through the grimoires you gave me. Some of these spells are really cool. Like this one." Harley says pointing to it.
Nik sits down next to her and looks at the spell and smiles. "Your Uncle Kol wrote that one."
"Really?"
"Yeah. He was an excellent witch when we were human. It wouldn't have surprised any of us if he eventually surpassed our mother with all the promise he showed."
"It makes sense why he was devastated when he turned. I couldn't imagine losing my magic. I'd probably go crazy."
"That's exactly what he did. When he wasn't daggered he would talk to as many witches as he could find and learn everything or he would be on a killing spree. I think he was looking for a way to get his magic back for a while until he gave up."
"Hmm. I wish I could have met him." Harley says.
"I wish you could have too." Nik says
"You miss him."
"I do and so does Elijah and Rebekah. People can think of me as cruel and ruthless, but I do love my family."
Harley leaned against him while looking at the place Kol's ashes were kept and thinking.

Harley was with her family and Pearce and Trevor waiting to go in and attack the newborns with the shifters. Isaak was with Bella, Edward, and Seth at another location. 
Harley watches as Jasper tackles a newborn and kills him. The other newborns spin to find a lethal-looking Jasper in a crouch beside his victim's body. They begin to rush Jasper, but four of them are tackled down by Esme, Rosalie, Carlisle, Emmett, Alice, and Andrew. Then Sam lunges out of the woods in wolf form with two of the other pack members flanking him. They all start tearing newborns to pieces. The Mikaelson family and Trevor and Pearce follow. 
The battle continues. Harley was using her vampire strength and her magic to defeat newborns left and right. Nik was staying near her while the others ran around in every direction taking out newborns. It didn't take too long for all of the newborns to be defeated.
Harley lights separate piles of newborn limbs on fire and everyone speeds around to make sure every last newborn is burning. She can feel the amount of magic in the clearing after the battle...it's like a huge surge of power just waiting to be tapped into.
Edward, Bella, and Isaak race out of the trees and head to Alice, who had a vision of the Volturi guard coming.
"How long?" Edward asks
"A few minutes, maybe 10." Alice says
"They timed their arrival well." Rosalie says
"Probably hoping the newborns took a few of us out." Emmett says
"They didn't know you had the pack and the Mikaelson and friends helping you." Harley says
Edward sees a young newborn girl standing by the fire. "What is she doing here?"
"We offered her safe haven if she stopped fighting, she took it." Esme says
"The pack needs to leave. The Volturi won't honor a truce with the werewolves." Carlisle says
"We're going to go too. We have nothing to do with the Volturi and now that the army is defeated and Bella is safe we're going to head home." Elijah says for the Mikaelsons, Trevor, Pearce, and Isaak.
Jacob then comes out of the tree line. But then his attention is brought to Leah who charges as one last newborn. The newborn moves out of her way, spins and grabs onto her, but Jacob tackles the male newborn. They roll and Jacob rips his face off as the newborn tightens his arms around him, crushing half of his body. Jacob lets out a pained howl.
"Jacob!" Bella yells and both she and Harley run over to Jake. The other shifters pounce onto the newborn and destroy him.
Edward and Carlisle run over to Jacob, who shifted back into his human form.
"Hold on, Carlisle is gonna take care of you." Edward says to him.
"The bones on the right half of his body are shattered." Carlisle says
"Bella." Jake groans out
"I'm right here." Bella says as she takes his hand in hers.
The shifters shift into their human form and surround Jake.
"Jacob, you idiot. I had it." Leah says to him.
"Leah." Sam warns
"I need to set the bones before his accelerated healing kicks in. It's already starting." Carlisle says
"We need to get him out of here. The Volturi is coming." Edward says
"We'll take him back to Billy's." Sam says
"I'll be there as soon as I can." Carlisle says
"Hang in there, Jake. We got you." Bella says
The pack lifts him up and Jake cries out in pain. The pack, Harley, Nik, Bella, and Isaak disappear into the woods going towards Billy's and The rest of the Mikaelsons and the gay couple head home.

Bella and Sam are in Jake's room with Carlisle. They hear Jake releasing pained screams as his bones are getting reset. Harley turns into Embry's chest at each scream. 
After Carlisle finished, he walked out of the house and Sam was following behind him.
"The worst is over. He'll be alright." Carlisle says.
Billy exhales in relief. Sam puts his hand on Billy's shoulder.
"I gave him some morphine, but his body temperature will burn it off soon. I'll come back to set up a drip." Carlisle tells him
"Thank you." Billy says to Carlisle
"Bella is sitting with him. He asked her to stay."
