lore 😨

hey yall i have no motivation to write due to VA stuff and other projects BUT no matter what I do like writing lore (and also motivation will be forced to come back for episode 8, i am SOOOOO glad that its not on the 16th cause I have marching band that day)

Considering this is a reader-insert, I am treating the (Y/N) in this story as an oc. You're the character if you'd like to be, but for this moment (Y/N) is Q-9. This chapter also includes a lot of in general speculation of what could have happened in the timeline of MD, take what I say with a grain of salt because some parts could be inaccurate (especially because im adding ocs to this)

Q-9's backstory does have some triggering parts so please read with caution. These topics consist of;
Suicide
Alcoholism
Abuse
General toxic parenting/people

so yeah um 👍

Some parts of this were planned from the get-go and others were ideas that are more recent, if anyone has any questions or suggestions to improve on writing they would be very much appreciated :)

next chapter(s) will be episode 8, idk where this book will go from there. Like uhhh... idk, maybe I'll stop with fanfic and keep pursuing YT and voice acting. Anything could happen i guess.

I have a feeling episode 8 will be a three-parter.

Basic Info

Name: Q-9
Age: 18
Birthday: August 27th 3053
Gender: no
Species: Worker drone infected with the solver

———

Pre-3053:

In the labs, Nori, Yeva, and Betty are all forced to take part in an experiment to study the solver and try to eradicate it. This experiment results in the core collapse of copper-9, and in the process the three named worker drones find their way to the surface.

A while after the incident, when Drones had shifted their lives to replace those of the Humans, a group of Worker Drones finds the three in the snow of camp 98.7. They integrate into drone society, and try their best to live normal lives. For the most part they do, as Nori meets her husband Khan, Yeva meets her husband, and Betty meets her "boyfriend" Aaron.

Even with their efforts, the three were still affected by the solver in their daily lives. Nori and Betty especially, due to Yeva having been patched in the labs. Nori and Betty convince Khan and Aaron to start prototyping the door prototypes, eventually successful with a final product.

Around this time, Betty sends out a letter accidentally dedicated to an address located in the abandoned human city. She becomes pen pals with the random she sent the letter to, eventually meeting in real life in the campground, her Aaron and Ollie (Pen pal) becoming friends. To cope with the solver, Betty ends up telling Ollie everything.

3053–3056:

Uzi, Doll, and Q-9 are all made around the same time, and everything is all good at first.

Instead of Q-9 being made from two parents who had been together for a long time, Betty and Aaron had mutually agreed to use part of their programming for the purpose of creating them. Betty had wanted a child, but had nobody to have one with, and Aaron happily agreed to help her out. (If you guys don't know how the drones reproduce, basically in short two parents put part of their coding on a USB that they plug into a machine, which then pops out an untrained AI baby, which is why personalities started to appear in the drones. No sex before marriage, kids.) Though after a few weeks of thinking, she starts to regret asking him to do so, and reaches out to Ollie instead. He at first hesitates, but agrees to send some of his own programming over for Betty to switch out with Aarons.

At some point during this chunk of time, the Murder Drones arrive on Copper-9. Nori is supposedly 'killed' in the attack, being stabbed with the nanites and put out of her misery, but since we're all totally normal MD fans we all know she survived.

Betty is also "killed" in the attack, but she was left to rot out in the snow. After hours of pain, she finds a way to open her chest cavity and rip out her drone-core-heart, which remained unmoving on the snow along with her main body. Q-9, still in their pill-baby body, was dropped into the snow next to her, and forced to watch everything. Search parties were send out on the daytime following the attack and they were retrieved.

The workers adjust to life under the ice.

3057–3063

During this time period, somewhere, Q-9 was given their full worker drone model. Rather early, albeit. Though they weren't exactly done with maturing/developing as an AI, many of the drones in their life had commented as a child that they were rather mature for their age.

While grieving, Aaron picks up drinking. But he and Ollie end up speaking more, eventually moving in together. Ollie helps out both Aaron with his grieving and drinking problems while being a major caretaker/influence on Q-9. But with every good comes a bad, and Ollie and Aaron have frequent arguments, mainly incited by Aaron. This was due to Aaron's nature, craving attention and provoking others to get a reaction, whether it was a good or bad one.

Once Q-9 is trusted with their arms and legs with their normal worker drone model, Aaron starts dragging them into arguments, and sometimes not allowing them to leave by grabbing their wrists/arms harshly, sometimes leaving small dents in the metal. Ollie would always be there to comfort them and be a safe space, despite being part of the problem.

Aaron and Khan end up getting into an argument over every little petty thing. They end up staying friends in the end, Aaron and Khan working in the WDF together, but they both hold resentment towards the other's families. Very toxic work environment lmao sucks to be them.

3064–3067

At this point in time, Aaron becomes stable enough to be more in Q-9's life in a calmer way and carry normal conversations, and sees the affect he had on them already. He acts like he hadn't done anything, which didn't help with the anger already within Q-9's programming. Aaron, in an endless cycle, stops drinking for a while, which ends up making his behavior worse.

During this time, symptoms of the solver start to arise in Q-9. They end up biting their skin open, which ends up making them feel worse after a while. Having been trusted with limbs at too young of an age, they end up breaking into oil preserves and stealing a few packages. When they sneak back home, Ollie catches them, and they end up spilling everything to him. Thankfully, since he already knows a good amount of what the solver is, he's able to help them while also learning more about the solver. Q-9's teachers end up picking up on "malfunctions" in their programming, giving Aaron a pamphlet similar to the one Khan had in episode 3.

Eventually, Ollie and Aaron agree to take Q-9 to a doctor of sorts, clearing out Betty's death from their memory files. They still remember it happened, but not anything too specific about the situation.

3068–3071

Generally the years here go by the same. Aaron is in and out of his drinking addiction, sometimes adding Magnets to the mix.

Q-9 is generally terrified of the solver, whenever they end up accidentally using it shrieking. Ollie was always the one checking in on them.

Eventually, Q-9's wings and tail sprout out of their body, causing them to panic heavily. This time, they were home alone and nobody would be able to come home soon. They keep that part of them hidden from everyone instead of telling Ollie about it, worried that if he knew "He would think they were a monster, too".

They limited their consumption of oil after that point to only eat the amount they needed to survive.

and then the main plot of MD came up lolololol sucks to be themmmmm 😝😝😝
