As the evening wore on, Raven found herself unable to shake the tension. Seeking solace, she returned to the library. In the dimly lit corners of the library, Raven buried herself in books on meditation and magical control, searching for techniques to help channel her powers more effectively. She read about ancient breathing exercises designed to calm the mind and focus magical energy, and techniques for grounding oneself during intense spells. These methods seemed crucial for the ritual she planned to attempt again.
Hours passed in a blur, and by the time she was done with her studies, the library was nearly empty. As Raven made her way back to her dormitory, her path led her past the Potions storage rooms. She was about to walk by when a flicker of movement caught her eye. Curiosity piqued, she glanced through a small crack in the door and saw Professor Moody rummaging through Snape's personal stores.
Raven's breath caught in her throat. Something about his presence here, at this hour, seemed off. She hesitated, then, mustering her courage, pushed the door open and stepped inside.
"Professor?" Raven called out, her voice cutting through the silence. The man straightened, his gaze snapping towards her, a cold glint in his eyes.
"Miss Gwyneth," he acknowledged, his voice smooth but tinged with something unsettling. "What brings you here at such a late hour?"
"I could ask you the same," Raven replied, her eyes narrowing. "This is Professor Snape's personal storage. What are you doing here?"
Moody's expression hardened, his gaze chillingly detached. "Just ensuring everything is in order. Dark times, you know. We must be vigilant."
Raven felt a shiver run down her spine at his tone. "Dark times or not, it doesn't explain why you're here without Professor Snape's knowledge."
Moody's lips curved into a thin, humorless smile. "You seem quite taken with Professor Snape, Miss Gwyneth. Be careful where you place your trust. The dark arts can be... seductive."
Raven's eyes widened, a mixture of fear and anger bubbling up. "What do you mean by that?"
Moody stepped closer, his presence oppressive. "Just a friendly reminder. The pursuit of power can lead one down dangerous paths. Not all who wander into the darkness return unscathed."
Raven's heart pounded in her chest. The man's words were laden with an ominous weight, and she felt a deep unease settle over her. "I'm not afraid of the dark," she said, trying to keep her voice steady.
"Perhaps you should be," Moody replied, his tone as cold as ice. "Not all shadows are empty. Some are filled with intentions far darker than you can imagine."
Without another word, Moody turned and left, leaving Raven standing alone, her mind reeling. The encounter had shaken her more than she cared to admit. She hurried back to her dormitory, her thoughts a tangled mess of fear and suspicion.
The next day passed in a haze. Raven attended her classes, but her mind was elsewhere, replaying the encounter with Moody over and over again. During Herbology, she barely registered Professor Sprout's lecture, and in Charms, her wand movements were mechanical, her thoughts far away.
Charlotte and Ben noticed her distraction, but Raven waved off their concerns, insisting she was just tired. She couldn't bring herself to tell them about the previous night's events, about the cryptic and chilling words Moody had spoken. There was a weight on her shoulders, a sense of something looming just out of sight, and she couldn't shake the feeling that she was being drawn into a deeper, darker world.
As dinner approached, Raven's anxiety grew. She picked at her food, her appetite gone, the anticipation of the ritual and her meeting with Snape consuming her. The Great Hall buzzed with the usual evening chatter, but she felt isolated, trapped in her own thoughts.
