I wake up to a marimba ring tone echoing off my walls. That's not my ring tone so I know it's Corey's phone ringing. I groan and kick at his legs. He sighs and removes his hands from around my waist and rolls over. I hear him find his phone and the ringing gets louder.

"Yeah?" He mumbles and I chuckle, turning over and looking at him. My room is a bit dark now and I can tell we've been asleep for a while. Corey's hair is messy and his eyes are puffy. He talks to someone for a while about God knows what before hanging up and sitting up.

"Who was that?" I ask, sitting up as well and rubbing my eyes.

"My friend Matt. We're supposed to go see a movie tonight. I totally forgot." He sighs

"Well what time is it right now? Can't you still make it?" I question and he shrugs, looking at me.

"It's six. The movie's at 6:30. We were supposed to meet now." He says

"Damn we slept that long?" I whisper and I hear Corey laugh

"We did. There's another showing at nine. I'm gonna go and hang out with him until then. Get dinner or something." He explains and gets out of bed, getting dressed. I watch as he starts for my door. I get up and follow him out to the kitchen. He turns around and smiles at me.

"I'm sorry. I had a really good time with you." Corey says, hugging me slightly.

"I did too. Do you still want to try and see each other again?" I ask and he rolls his eyes at me. He leans down and plants a gentle kiss on my lips. I swear I feel a spark and my stomach flip as I kiss him back. He pulls back after a few seconds and I laugh, covering my mouth with my hand.

"Not to sound cheesy or anything, but when you do cute shit like that, it just does something to me." He comments and I blush, "So yes I want to see you again. For a long time. Until that stuff isn't cute to me anymore."

"You're crazy." I laugh and he just shrugs.

"I'll see you when I get back. I should be home Tuesday night. We're going to New York." He sighs and I nod. He starts for my front door and opens it. He looks back at me before leaving. I shut the door behind him and lean back against it. I slide down the door until I'm sat on the ground, a grin on my face. He's the cutest thing ever, I just hope he doesn't dump me like everyone else has. I take a few minutes to collect myself before getting up off the floor. I wander around for a while and realize I'm hungry again. I grab my phone from the counter and call Kayla.

"Evelyn! How was it?" She answers, almost instantly.

"It was good. Listen if you come over and have dinner with me I'll tell you all about it." I suggest and she sighs.

"Is that blackmail?" She asks and I snort

"Honey I don't think you fully understand that word. Just come eat with me." I beg, searching through for pantry for something I can make.

"What're we having?" Kayla asks and I hear keys jingling.

"Um, pizza?" I ask, looking at the frozen pizza in my freezer.

"Eh, why not." She teases and I roll my eyes.

"Like you were going to say no." I answer, pulling the pizza from the freezer and setting it down. I turn on the oven and wait for it to heat up.

"Okay, I'll be there in a few. Can I sleep over?" She questions

"Course." I say absentmindedly, sticking the pizza in the oven and closing it.

"Great. See you soon." She says and hangs up. I leave the kitchen and plop on the couch, turning on some random movie. As promised, Kayla shows up within a couple minutes, just coming in my apartment.

"Yo!" She calls and I laugh. She passes through the living room and winks at me as she goes into my room, probably to put her stuff down. She comes and sits next to me, staring at me intensely.

"Hm?" I ask, looking over at her

"Tell me about your date, bitch!" She screams, shaking my arm. I laugh and turn to face her, telling her literally everything. Every few seconds she interrupts me to make a comment or mention how "cute" something is. When I finally finish she just groans.

"That's perfect. Evelyn he's perfect for you." Kayla sighs. I roll my eyes and stand up as I hear the timer for the pizza go off. Kay follows closely behind me as I go to the kitchen.

"What?" She asks. I ignore her for a minute as I pull the pizza from the oven. Kayla tries to rip off a piece of pepperoni and quickly pulls her hand back, burning herself. I snicker and grab plates.

"Evelyn!" She scolds and I groan

"Kayla we've been on one date!" I answer, shoving a plate in her hands.

"So." She mumbles, grabbing a slice of pizza and scurrying off. I curse under my breath as I grab my own food. I go back to the living room and we sit on the couch, watching tv. Once we've eaten, we talk for a while until we get tired. As I'm about to fall asleep, my phone chimes on the coffee table. Kayla groans and rolls over as I reach to get it. There's a new text message from Corey.

"I just got home. I remembered that u have chemo this week. Not really sure how'll you'll be but let me kno if u need something."

I smile and send a quick reply before setting my phone down. I pull my blanket up higher and easily fall asleep.

I wake up to the alarm on my phone going off. I sit up and rub my eyes before turning it off, seeing it's six. Kayla isn't next to me anymore and I wonder where she is. After a few minutes, I get up and go to the bathroom. I shower quickly and finally am fully awake. After I finish, I wrap a towel around my body and head to my bedroom. I jump when I see Kayla asleep in my bed. I roll my eyes and dig through my dresser for some scrubs to wear. I settle on mint green ones and I change. I grab my white tennis shoes from my closet and quietly leave the room. I do my hair and makeup and check the time. I have about ten minutes before I need to leave. I grab something to eat and leave a note for Kayla, just in case she forgot I work today. I grab my bag and jacket and leave my apartment. I take the stairs and head outside. The chilly morning air makes my eyes water. I walk the five blocks to the hospital and hurry inside. I head to my ward and greet the other nurses as I clock in.

I make sure to work extra hard today, since I'll be out for a week. When I'm finally done for the day, it's 3 o'clock. I skipped lunch so I'm starving. I head home, feeling a bit dizzy. When I finally make it to my apartment, I see Kayla sat on my couch. I laugh, knowing she would still be here.

"Hey mama." She calls. I wave to her as I head to my room. I change into a crop top and sweats, fixing my ponytail. I haven't checked my phone all day and I pull it out. I have a few texts from some of my friends and one from my mom telling me to come for dinner. I sigh and go find Kayla.

"Let's go." I say, nodding towards the front door. She obeys and turns off the tv, standing up.

"Where're we going?" She questions, following me out of my apartment.

"Mom's." I say, getting in the elevator. We go to her apartment and her and my nonna are already eating and we join in. It's quite early to eat but they're old and I'm starving so oh well. Kayla leaves immediately after we finish dinner. I stay and clean up. When I finish, my mom is sat flicking through the tv.

"Game at seven." She comments and I nod.

"Yeah I'm gonna watch it at home, if I can stay awake." I sigh, sitting beside her. She turns the tv off and we sit and talk for a while. At 6:30 I say goodbye and make my way back to my apartment. I take my 4 chemo pills and get comfortable in bed, turning on the game. I'm able to stay awake for the whole first period. It's 1-0, the Rangers winning. I start getting drowsy and before the puck drops for the first time in the second period, I'm out.
