Episode 12 - Enjoying her Suffering

"This... is absurd," I said to Sebastian as we walked into the carnival together.

A bunch of children screamed and ran across the street, playing with what looked like paper airplanes, but they were made from foil.

"I never understood children and their desire for belongings," Sebastian remarked as we kept walking. "They want everything and then end up throwing it away."

"They're children, Sebastian," I said as we made our way to the main tent. "You shouldn't expect them to be hyper aware and intelligent."

"Ciel was, and he was twelve," Sebastian said then.

"Well, Ciel was a prodigy," I answered, shaking my head. "Many children are not. Especially teens. They screw around, get bad grades, care less about their future even when it's only a year away. Not all, but many of them."

"And you're no different, master?" Sebastian asked me.

"I never said I was different," I answered darkly as we stopped next to the main tent. "I signed my life away with you, after all. For a foolish revenge. That, alone, tells me that I am no different than the rest of them."

His lashes lowered.

"Heeeeeeey! You actually came!" Sam said from far ahead, and both Sebastian and I gazed up to find him jogging toward us.

"He's so old I didn't think he could actually run," I remarked.

Sebastian just smiled.

"Hello, Sebastian! Everyone's so excited to meet you! And..." he gazed down at me, "you are...."

"My name is Yumi," I said.

"Oh, hello, Yumi. Beautiful name. Very uncommon now-a-days." He then gazed up at Sebastian. "I have the whole day scheduled out! The first thing is for Yumi to do an audition for a play." He then looked down at me. "I have some scripts that you can pick."

I smiled kindly. "I think Sebastian has better taste in scripts than me. He knows me better than myself, it feels like."

"Alright, then, Sebastian, you pick the right script for Yumi, here, and I will go get the stage ready for her." He handed Sebastian a file that I just realized he was holding, and he jogged off back into the tent.

Sebastian just gazed down to the file and unfolded it, lightly running his fingers along the thick mount of papers before he picked one, pulling it out. "Ah, this will fit you perfectly."

"What is it?" I said then, looking over at it. "'Marley by Jones Collins'?"

"Indeed," Sebastian said then, smiling a little. "Although since you have little to no time to memorize the script. I shall have it arranged so you read the lines from off stage. Would you like that, master?"

"That'd be nice," I said then, shrinking back onto my feet. "I'm not fond of memorizing a whole script in two minutes anyway."
