MEGAN NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT COLLEGE

MEGAN NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT COLLEGE... or anything past high school, for that matter. She'd always been dead-set focused on keeping a roof over her head and providing for her family that college and further education seemed too far fetched. That's why she never answered that "what do you want to be when you grow up" question. Her answer was always simple: be alive.

However, that was before her life finally started to become normal again. Now that her mother was better and Brandon was getting older, her future seemed to brighten up. And she was a senior in high school now. She needed to start thinking about her future.

All her friends were goal oriented to their designated Ivy League colleges. Eli and Demetri to MIT, Miguel to Stanford and Sam to... well, most likely anywhere sophisticated and close enough to Stanford.

However, the two people who meant the most to Megan gave up on any of their college dreams. Supposed that's what happens when you're a high school drop out, a juvenile delinquent and spent nearly a year on probation. Yet, that didn't stop them from encouraging Megan to widen her horizons.

Since their mother's quick recovery, Tory pushed Megan to start applying to higher-level colleges, telling her that she could hold down the house while she was away. Robby had told her the same thing on their many nights she lied awake in his arms. He'd tell her she was too smart to not give it a chance.

If Megan was being honest, she didn't want to go anywhere too far. She liked it in the Valley. It was safe, it was protected and she would be with the people she loved the most. Maybe she was clingy and sure, she had some attachment issues, but the thought of leaving either her family or Robby made her heart hurt in seven million different ways.

Yet, she still followed their wishes and arrived at the school's college fair along with Miguel and Sam. Megan invited Robby to go with her but he shut down her suggestion immediately, claiming the college representatives would take one look at his history and send him packing. While it might've been true, it couldn't hurt to try.
