You and Mirabel reach the crack that had previously opened in the mountain.
As the Encanto glows in the background, you and Mirabel step into the darkness of the outside world, leaving your home behind. Mirabel runs ahead of you, and you do your best to keep up.
After some time, at a riverbank, you find a small shape crouched on a rock by the water—Mirabel. She looks lost, at rock bottom, crying and ashamed of herself and what she believes she's done to the family and her home. You sit next to her, rubbing her back, comforting her.
"It's okay, Mira. I promise—everything will work out... We always have each other."
Suddenly, you hear a twig snap behind you, and you turn to see Abuela Alma approaching quietly.
Abuela Alma: "Mirabel... Y/N..."
Mirabel: "...I'm sorry. I didn't want to... hurt us... I just wanted to... to be something I'm not..."
As Mirabel starts to cry, Abuela begins to speak. You've never heard her voice like this—she's broken, exhausted... old. She looks to the water.
Abuela Alma: "I've never been able to... come back here..."
Abuela Alma sits by Mirabel, putting her between you and Abuela Alma as you look out at the river.
Abuela Alma: "This river... is where we were given our miracle..."
Mirabel: "Where Abuelo Pedro..."
Y/N: "And Abuelo Truth..."
You and Mirabel look at Abuela, trying to understand where she's coming from. She seems so lost and frail. Abuela looks back to the water...
Abuela Alma: "I thought we would have a different life... I thought I would be a different woman..."
As Abuela begins to tell the story, you and Mirabel can almost envision it.

A Young Abuela Alma moves through her village, and a holiday candle festival is underway. She's a different person, young and full of life. She grabs a candle and hops up on the railing of a bridge to see the festivities. As she does, she notices Young Abuelo Pedro doing the same. He smiles at her, and she almost loses her balance as she smiles back. It's funny and imperfect, and she doesn't take it too seriously.
As the festivities continue in the background, Alma and Pedro sit talking, and love blossoms. Young Abuela offers him a snack from her basket. He looks into her eyes as he eats it. Butterflies swarm around them. Just then, a woman with S/C skin and interlocking arms with a brown-skinned man walks past the two. This is young Grandma/Abuela Lola and young Grandpa/Abuelo Truth. Lola gives Alma a teasing nudge, happy to see her finding love. Truth smirked at Pedro, giving him a finger gun as they walked past, leaving Alma and Pedro an embarrassed mess.
