୨⎯ The Power of Madonna ⎯୧Juliette and Quinn were sitting at the kitchen table, eating breakfast. The morning sun streamed through the window, casting a warm glow over the room. Quinn took a sip of her orange juice before looking over at Juliette with a concerned expression.
"Are you okay? You've been much quieter than usual since last week," Quinn asked, her tone gentle.
Juliette poked at her food, not meeting Quinn's eyes. "I'm fine," she replied, her voice flat.
Quinn frowned. "It's also the first time in a while you slept here at your house. Where have you been?"
Juliette hesitated, trying to find the right words. "I've just been staying with a friend," she said vaguely.
Quinn raised an eyebrow, not buying the nonchalant response. "A friend? Like a sleepover?"
Juliette sighed, knowing Quinn wouldn't let it go. "Sort of. I've been staying at a friend's place."
Quinn's frown deepened. "You mean Mallory? Jules, you've heard what everyone says about her. Are you sure that's a good idea?"
Juliette's eyes flashed with a mix of defensiveness and uncertainty. "She's not like what people say, Quinn. She's...complicated. But she's been there for me."
Quinn reached across the table, placing a hand on Juliette's. "Jules, I'm your friend too. If something's going on, you can tell me. I won't judge."
Juliette felt a lump form in her throat. She wanted to confide in Quinn, to tell her about the slap, the apology, the confusion she felt. But the words wouldn't come. Instead, she just nodded, forcing a smile. "Thanks, Quinn. I appreciate that. But nothing is going on."
Just then, Dorota walked into the kitchen. "Miss Juliette, Sir Nathaniel is here. He says that he will drive you three to school today."
"Thanks, Dorota. We'll be there in a while," Juliette replied with a kind smile.
A few minutes later, Juliette and Quinn grabbed their bags and headed outside, where Nathaniel was waiting by his car. He smiled when he saw them, opening the passenger door for Juliette and the back door for Quinn.
"Morning, ladies," Nathaniel greeted cheerfully.
"Morning, Nate," Juliette and Quinn chimed in unison.
As they settled into the car and Nathaniel pulled out of the driveway, Quinn fiddled with the radio, searching for a station. Suddenly, the unmistakable intro to Madonna's "Material Girl" filled the car.
Juliette started singing along absentmindedly:
Some boys kiss me, some boys hug me
I think they're okay
If they don't give me proper credit
I just walk awayQuinn then also started singing along, her voice clear and confident:
They can beg and they can plead
But they can't see the light (that's right)
'Cause the boy with the cold hard cash
Is always Mister RightAll three then started singing with Nate flipping his hair in a manner:
'Cause we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material girlJuliette starts again solo:
Some boys romance, some boys slow dance
That's all right with me
If they can't raise my interest
Then I have to let them be
