Chapter 25: Promise

Start from the beginning

It felt like an eternity just staring at him, until a stupid crow came from the window and woke him up.

"DEMON ON THE CITY! DEMON ON THE CITY."

Giyu immedietely stood up in a matter of seconds and you both had eye contact.

You held your breath as you both just stared. It was as if time became frozen and it was just you and Giyu alone together.

Of course a crow came in to ruin the moment.

"DEMON ON THE CITY! DEMON ON THE CITY." Giyu flinched at the crow and immedietely left the room with a just a breath.

You just stared at the door for a long time until the door barged open and you saw your mother and a man in a white coat that looks like a doctor came in to your room.

"Y/n!" Your mom shouted and was about to burst in tears.

Both of them came closer and you just stared at them. You didn't have the energy to do anything. Your throat felt so dry and you couldn't even feel your own body anymore.

The doctor didn't try to make conversations with you as he gave you a check-up. He only mentioned that his name was Eljiyu. Your mother explained that he was a family doctor. Your mother offered you a small glass of water while Eljiyu was doing a chek-up on you.

After the check-up, your mother burst down into crying into your bed and you gave her a small pat on the head as she was crying and ranting about how worried she was.

You on the other hand felt really bad, but didn't have any energy at all to tell her how sorry you were or tell her that you were okay. You just stared at her with a reassuring smile and she just smiled back and started crying again.

After a few minutes Iragano burst into the room with a plate of food. It wasn't exactly just food. It was a full mountain of it.

Your mother tears started to dry and took the plate and spoon in order to feed you while Iragano sat down on the other chair and you two just stared at each other.

"How you feeling?" Iragano asked you as your mom gave you spoonful of food. You took it in your mouth and chewed it really slowly. Feeling the flavor on your mouth and processing what you were currently feeling.

You swallowed the food slowly. "Alive." You finally said, and Iragano and your mother did a small smile.

"The same as ever." Iragano said then started to lecture you with your mother butting in on some conversations to make sure you understand.

minutes turned into hours until the sun started to set outside and your grandfather's head came out of the door and told the girls that you needed to rest and recover.

Iragano protested and said that you have been sleeping for a month but your grandfather just stared at her with piercing eyes. Telling her something without opening his mouth.

Iragano sighed and patted your head goodnight and your grandfather smiled softly at you and nodded. You knew just looking at his eyes that he wants to tell you something.

We'll talk soon, rest well

You translated his look and he left until it was just you and your mother were left inside the room.

Your mother held your hand and you stared at her and held her hand gently. "Maybe it was a bad idea to let you leave." Your mother whispered looking at your hand.

"I'm okay mom." You said trying to be reassuring and she just smiled sadly and stared at you.

Her smile was melancholy, a feeling of deep regret, yet she was happy that you were alive. She was happy she got to see you again.

She laughed. It was sarcastic. A taste of venom filled the air "No you're not Y/n. Your not okay. You were never okay after his..." She trailed off rubbing her thumb around your hand.

"Mom-"

"His death" Your mom finished cutting you off and the look of her eyes were pure pain. It was hazel, almost glowing of gold. There was pain on those eyes. Pain that would never be explained.

You looked at her and that was when you realized that you yourself also felt the same pain. The pain of his death. He was dead. Long dead, and this was the time you finally realized that your father will never be your father ever again.

"Your nightmares. I always checked up on you while you slept. I tried some incense, did some rituals but it turned to be inaffective." She said staring at your hand. A small tear leaving her eye. You brought your hand up and wiped the tear away.

Your mother leaned into your hand. "I knew that if you stayed here, everything would get worse. It was hard for you to cope, so I let you go..." Your mother said and your both had eye-contact.

Her hazel eyes started to turn into a darker shade of brown yet you still saw a tinge of gold to it. It was shining from the tears that she held back in her eyes.

"I knew how dangerous the world is, and I just let you go as if there was no risks."

You were speechless. Unable to process those words into your mind. She held your hand just stared at it. You wished you knew what she was thinking.

Finally she looked up and you both had eye-contact once more.

"I'm sorry Y/n" She said in quiet voice. A tone of guilt rang into her voice.

You held her hand tightly. You didn't know what to say to her. You were confused yet you understood her pain.

You took her hand and gave it a small peck "I love you mom." You said and your mom smiled sadly.

"I love you too." She reached forward and kissed your forhead.

"Go to sleep now." She said gently and you closed your eyes.

"Honey" You heard your mom called from the door.

You opened your eyes and looked at her while she stared back at you with her lips pressed into a thin line. You always knew how beautiful she is. Her hair was as; straight/curly as yours and her face looked so shiny and smooth that complimented her eyes and nose. It didn't matter how old she is. She was the definition of beauty. You just stared at her waiting patiently.

"Promise me you won't let anyone ruin your will to live on." She said gently yet very fiercely. There was a sense of fire on her voice yet the fire was calm and controlled. Peaceful and warm.

You smiled gently at her while she just stared at you back with a serious yet gentle face.

"I promise." You said quietly.

Your mom let her features relax and she sighed. She nodded to you while you smiled back and she returned the smile before closing the door.

"Mom" You called out for her as the door was only a centimeter distance from the frame.

"Yes?" She responded immedietely and opened the door wide.

Will everything be the way it was before dad died?

You wanted to ask her that question even though you knew the answer. It was burning you inside your chest. How badly you wished things would be as it was years ago.

"Will everything be okay?" You asked her instead.

She just stared at you with a look of surprise. She did not expect you to ask her that kind of question. After a few moments she smiled gently and stared at you with a soft gaze.

She took her right hand up "I promise everything will be okay."
