Chapter 29 - Plan B

                                    

                                          
While others were setting up for the Masquerade Ball at the Lockwoods, Caroline and Kassidy were at the boarding house taking care of their mother. Liz is lying on her cot in the Salvatore basement. Caroline and Kassidy come in. Liz sits up. Caroline walks over to her and looks down at her tray of food. Kassidy stands next to Caroline.
"You didn't eat much." Caroline says and there is an awkward silence
"Good news: Doctor Damon said the vervain is almost out of your system. So with any luck, you'll be freshly compelled and back in your own bed by tonight." Kassidy say and Liz doesn't answer or look at them. "Are you really just gonna pretend like we don't exist?" Kassidy asks
"Yes. So please, go." Liz says
Caroline takes the tray and the sisters start to walk away. "As usual, you don't care. Got it. Just like before I was a vampire. It's not like I died or anything." Caroline says.
"And it's not like I've had magic for years." Kassidy adds.
Caroline opens the door and the girls are about to walk out. Liz speaks up, "Are you...Are you really dead?" Liz asks Caroline before looking at Kassidy, "And you've had magic for years?"
"Yes and no." Caroline says
"Yes." Kassidy says
"How is that possible?" Liz asks and the girls shut the door and walk back over to Liz.

"So mainly I drink from blood bags. It's not as good as the fresh stuff but it beats the animal blood that Stefan's been trying to get me to drink." Caroline says
"So, you steal the blood from the hospital?" Liz asks
"Damon and Enzo do." Kassidy says
"I've been pilfering his supply, so..." Caroline says
"And as long as you have blood, you don't need to kill?"
"I want to. It's my basic nature now. But, on a healthy diet, I can control it. I'm getting better at it. I'm better than Stefan. He's a bit of a problem drinker. A blood-aholic."
"I don't want this for you."
"I know. But when life gives you lemons..." Caroline says before giggling weakly.
"And you were born with powers?" Liz asks Kassidy.
"I came into them a few years ago. Around the same time the tattoo on the back of my shoulder appeared."
"What do you mean appeared?"
"It showed up on my body. It isn't a tattoo. It's a soulmark that I got when I started coming into my powers."
"Soulmark?"
"Yeah. It means I have a soulmate. They will have the matching mark. It's pretty rare, actually." Kassidy says and Liz nods in shock.
Caroline hears Damon enter the house.
"Damon's home." Caroline informs.
"You could hear that?" Liz asks
"Yeah. Bonnie is here too." Caroline says confused.
"What? Why? Bonnie hates Damon."
"Don't know." Caroline says.
"I'm going to go find out. I'll be back." Kassidy says before she stands up and goes upstairs.

"Why would it be in a well?" Kassidy heard Damon ask as she went upstairs.
"Because the well is filled with vervain. He doesn't trust vampires." Kassidy says
